Description

PL PLPriority: October 7, 1972 (P. 158139) Application announced: June 1, 1973 Patent description was published: June 10, 1975 78472 KI. 12n, 5/00 MKP C01g 5/00 CIYIELNIA \) ttaóv ^ akmtew ^^ Inventors of the invention: Jerzy Staniewicz, Jerzy Balcer Authorized by a temporary patent: Spółdzielnia Pracy "Gedania", Gdansk (Poland) Method of recovering silver from silver-plated glass crabs The subject of the invention There is a method of recovering silver from silver-plated glass cones, e.g. Christmas tree decorations or inserts for thermos flasks. It is possible to recover silver from silver-plated glass cones in the process of treatment with concentrated nitric acid at elevated temperature. This method is not used due to the high harmfulness of nitrogen oxides generated in the process. Moreover, it is a very expensive process due to the necessity to build reactors made of refractory and acid-resistant materials. The aim of the invention is to avoid the above-mentioned drawbacks and to develop a simple and effective method of recovering silver from silver plated crabs. In accordance with the task, the silver-plated cullets placed in the container are operated with an aqueous solution. containing 2-10% by weight sulfuric acid and 1-5% by weight of chromic acid anhydride, the result is water-soluble silver sulphate, which in further processes is converted into metallic silver or silver nitrate by known methods. Low concentration of sulfuric acid and chromic anhydride prevents other substances on the surface of the knuckles from entering the solution, eg varnish on Christmas tree decorations. The process also has the advantage that the reaction takes place quickly at room temperature. The use of the method according to the invention will allow for the reuse of silver, which so far has been thrown away in the form of silver plated key bars. Silvered Christmas tree decorations were treated with an aqueous solution containing 3% by weight of sulfuric acid and 1% by weight of chromic acid anhydride. The solution temperature was 16 ° C. The silver was washed away within 12 seconds, and the lacquer layer on the surface of the knocker was not disturbed. The silver sulphate formed in the process was converted into chloride by treatment with sodium chloride, which was then reduced to metallic silver. PL PL
