Abstract

The subject of the application is a passive fin rudder, which is an elongated solid with a cross-section of a preferably ellipse with a significant eccentricity. The solid is open at both ends so that water can flow laminarly through the fin, with the water inlet having a larger surface area than the outlet. The essence of the invention is to combine the traditional use of the fin deflection to direct the water stream in the desired direction of the turn, with the Venturi effect, thanks to which the water flowing through the interior of the fin escapes under increased pressure, supporting the turn. The obtained synergy effect - which was confirmed by the applicant's tests conducted in real conditions - significantly increases the effectiveness of the rudder, mainly by significantly reducing the turning radius.
