Żużel rafinacyjny w postaci kształtek zawiera wagowo od 20 do 50% CaO, od 10 do 60% Al2O3, od 2 do 7% MgO, od 2 do 5% Almet. oraz od 3 do 15% lepiszcza, przy czym uziarnienie wszystkich składników kształtek wynosi poniżej 1 mm, zaś najmniejszy wymiar kształtek jest większy od 10 mm.
