Abstract

The braking device has two fixed braking beams (16,18) essentially parallel to a drive rail and displaceable between braking and releasing positions, whereby to achieve the braking position the beams are moved towards each other so that their distance is less than the thickness of a railway vehicle wheel (12). The braking beams are self-centering relative to the wheel at least one the braking position.
