Abstract

The internal combustion engine comprises a switching valve (5) arranged at an input side of a high-pressure pumping device. A low viscosity fuel conducting inlet or high viscosity fuel conducting inlet are selectively interconnected with an inflow into the high-pressure pumping device. The switching valve is a 3/ 2 directional-control valve. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an internal-combustion engine, particularly self-igniting internal combustion engine.
