The individual elements of the known set of segments are relatively thick. Therefore, only a slight reduction in the thickness of the roll material is possible on one segment. An additional pre-milling operation becomes necessary when using these processes, or the forming is carried out gradually by drawing successively through several sets of segments. Another significant disadvantage is that a set of segments can only be used to form rolls of a relatively short length. According to the invention, the broaching head consists of a sleeve-shaped body which has radially arranged seats with cutting knives. The cutting knives point the cutting part towards the inside of the body and rest against the internal conical surface of the centering sleeve which surrounds the body. The centering sleeve may be displaced axially with respect to the body by means of a bolted connection. Such a construction of the head makes it possible to change the position of the cutting knives and the use of these knives for shaping the external shapes of rolls. As a result, it is possible to remove larger allowances compared to the known set of segments, which reduces the number of drags necessary to obtain the desired dimensions. All pulls are performed with one head by changing the number of subsequent knife positioning operations as a result of shifting body relative to the centering sleeve by means of a bolted connection. The design also enables easy replacement and sharpening of the cutting knives. Changing the profile of the blades of the knives allows the execution of any given shape of the external fight. The head can be used to form rolls of virtually any length. As one of the possible equations of a bolted joint moving the body relative to the centering sleeve, a nut on this sleeve can be used.
