Abstract

A biocompatible Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-Chitosan hydrogel implant prepared by gamma radiation crosslinking which can be injected into human body for tissue replacement and augmentation. The implant is prepared by dissolving the PVP and highly deacetylated chitosan in acetic acid solution and irradiating the solution to produce the gel. The synthesized radiation-cross linked PVP-chitosan implant has properties of a good tissue augmenting or bulking substance such as ease of injection through a small gauge needle, stability, biocompatibility and non-migration. PVP-chitosan implant is a potential alternative to the commercially available implant for endoscopic treatment of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR).
