Abstract

The present invention provides a circulating fluidized bed boiler which can efficiently chemically react alkali salts diffused in exhaust gas by fuel, even if a fuel that contains a large amount of alkali salt is used, and can suppress the adhesion of alkali salts to a superheater and the corrosion of the superheater due to such adhesion. The present invention also provides a method for operating the circulating fluidized bed boiler. This circulating fluidized bed boiler comprises: a furnace; a solid-gas separation device that collects solid particles discharged from the furnace; a return section (122) at which solid particles collected by the solid-gas separation device are accumulated before being returned to inside the furnace; and an introduction unit (125) that introduces a sulfur element-containing compound to the return section.
