Description
Ya Ne
PORTABLE SOLAR DRYER? 4,
Field of the Study
This invention relates to dryer devicg, very particular to its portability, detachability of drying trays (2), dome-typ top covering (7) and adjustable 5 tilting position of flooring to optimize heat absorption.
Nowadays, the plurality of solar dryer devices used for drying agricultural and aquatic products utilizing glass or Ultra Violet (UV) plastic (4) as top covering of the unit. Blower or small fans are usually attached in it to drive the heated mass of air from the solar collector and passes through the drying trays to facilitate drying process of the product. Usually the village type portable dryers have heat collecting tanks which have inlet and outlet of air. ~The top covering of the designed solar dryers are usually flat shape wherein the greenhouse effect is hampered in the unit. Traditionally, solar dryers are in huge sizes that needs two or more people to transfer from one place to another to optimize absorption of heat from the sun during the whole day of drying operation. In some cases, solar dryers are built only for its main purpose to dry food products with less consideration of its hygienic condition in the preservation of food products because of the entrants of dust, flies and other insects to the dryer.
This invention usually aims to provide portable solar dryer with heat collector (1), drawer-type detachable drying trays (2) for easy drying, plywood flooring (3), attached with paired bicycle-type wheels (6), dome-shaped top covering (7) utilizing UV plastic (4), adjustable tilting angle of the flooring, and screen-covering(8) at its both ends of the device.
This invention relates to dryer device particularly to; heat collector (1) drawer-type detachable drying trays (2), flooring made from plywood (3), attached with paired bicycle-type wheels (6) for its portability, dome-shaped top covering with UV plastic (4), adjustable tilting angle using angle arm support (11) flooring from its base frame (10), and fine wire screen covering (8) at both ends.

The design of the portable solar dryer is based on practical application of drying agriculture and aquatic products at farmers and fisher folks’ level.
The dryer has the dimension of 4 feet by 8 feet and fabricated with the available materials in the local market like 1 inch by 1 inch angle bars, 12 mm diameter plain round bars, % inch plywood, 1/2 inch wire mesh and wood lumber. It has dome-shaped top covering and using UV plastic to protect from rain and to have greenhouse effect inside the device to enhance temperature.
It increases to 4 degrees Celsius higher than ambient temperature.
There are four drawer-type detachable drying trays (2) in the device which has 23 inches by 30 inches dimension. Each tray is framed with wood 1 inch by 1 inch wood lumber and attached with 1/2 inch holes wire mesh. It is detachable in order to facilitate easy loading and unloading of products to be dried and to facilitate easy cleaning after using. The temperature within the device is not affected during loading and unloading because small portion is only opening once drying trays are remove one after the another. The unit is portable because of its attached pair of bicycle-type wheels (6) for easy hand- held transport from one place to another in order to look for opening are where sunlight is available. Its flooring is made from plywood (3) that will serve heat insulator and to prevent the escape of heat accumulated inside the device during drying operation. The plywood flooring is made detachable in order to facilitate easy maintenance through cleaning and removing of dirt and foul odor spilled on it during drying. It maintains hygienic performance in shifting of drying kind of products due to its plywood flooring detachability.
The dome-shaped top covering is framed with 12 mm diameter plain round bar fabricated through welding. It is covered with 0.006 inches thick
Uitra Violet (UV) plastic. This covering is used to protect drying products from the rain and for enhancing the temperature within the device. Research studies shows that dome shape covering facilitates the greenhouse effect in the dryer enhancing the temperature to rise at a certain level facilitating faster drying of products. Besides, the covering eliminates hustle of drying operation in times of intermittent rain and shine days. This kind of plastic covering usually lasts for four years drying operation before it tears down unlike the ordinary plastic covering that easily brittles with the heat and rain conditions.
The flooring of the device is adjustable to have tilting position from its base frame from zero up to 21 degrees angle of inclination leaning to the sun’s position using its angle arm support. This is in reference that geographical position of the Philippines with respect to sun varies from 4 to 21 degrees depending on the month according to research (Fidel Diaz, Jerrold
Ngo, Maximillian Pascual, Albert Planes, and Alvin Chua. 2014). Thus, to optimize the heat absorption from the sun, the device should be adjustable to follow through the tilting angle of the sun relative the month of the year.
Moreover, the tilting position of the dryer also facilitates the air movement inside the unit and aid the fast drying process of the products because of the air movement. It black heat collector absorb more heat and increases temperature inside the unit through conviction process.
