Abstract

The present invention addresses the problem of providing a steel sheet for containers, which has excellent appearance properties and can exhibit excellent coating material adhesiveness and sulfide staining resistance after being subjected to a high-temperature retort treatment without requiring the addition of Cr into a coating film. The steel sheet for containers according to the present invention comprises: a (tin plating layer)-attached steel sheet which comprises a steel sheet and a tin plating layer that covers at least a part of the surface of the steel sheet; and a coating film which is arranged on the (tin plating layer)-side surface of the (tin plating layer)-attached steel sheet. In the steel sheet, the coating film contains a tin oxide and also contains Zr, Ti and P, the quantity of electricity required for reducing the tin oxide is 0.20 to 3.50 mC/cm2, and the content of metal zirconium, the content of metal titanium and the content of phosphorus in the coating film are 1.0 to 40.0 mg/m2, more than 0.01 but less than 2.50 mg/m2, and 0.10 to 10.00 mg/m2, respectively.
