Description

- NON-PREFIX PLATFORM-BASED MESSAGE SERVICE . PROVIDING SYSTEM AND METHOD OF PROVIDING MESSAGE
SERVICE USING THE SAME
BACKGROUND
[0001] The present invention relates to a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system in a mobile communication terminal and a method of providing a message service using the same. More specifically, the present invention relates to a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system in a mobile communication terminal and a method of providing a message service using the same for converting a character message into a composite message and transmitting the composite message. 2. Discussion of Related Art
[0002] With the recent development of mobile communication technologies, there are provided not only a character message service including simple characters but also various message services capable of transmitting and receiving composite messages including color characters, voice, images, photos and the like, as well as simple characters.
[0003] Such message services are generally provided as additional services, and a mobile communication subscriber can use the additional services through a process including a subscription to the additional services, use of the additional services and cancellation of the additional services.
X
[0004] When subscribing to an additional service, a mobile communication subscriber transmits subscription request data to a corresponding system through a subscription channel such as WEB/WAP,
SMS, USSD or IVR. The corresponding system identifies the status and condition of subscriber’s mobile communication service subscription through the received subscription request data. If the subscriber’s service subscription is determined, the corresponding system stores information of the corresponding subscriber in a service subscriber DB. Accordingly, the procedure of subscribing to the additional service is completed.
[0005] When using the additional service, the service subscriber writes a character message by inputting an identification number prior to a receiver’s phone number and inputting message text, and then transmits the written character message to the corresponding system. The corresponding system provides the additional service by recognizing a service identification code included in reception information of the received character message.
[0006] When canceling the additional service, the service subscriber transmits cancellation request data to the corresponding system through a channel of the corresponding system. The corresponding system processes the request by identifying the received cancellation request data, and deletes the information of the corresponding subscriber from the subscriber DB.
[0007] In addition, the mobile communication subscriber may use the additional service while paying a fee per service use, without passing through a separate procedure of subscribing to the additional service.
[0008] However, in the conventional method of providing a message service as described above, there is inconvenience in that a mobile communication subscriber should remember individual service identification numbers of additional services that the subscriber intends to use, and pass through a separate subscription/cancellation procedure. Particularly, when using the message service, the subscriber should input a service identification number to receiver information and then input the receiver information.
Hence, the subscriber cannot immediately use a reply function provided as a basic function in most cellular phones. :
[0009] Further, a service identification number is given for each additional service, and subscriber information is individually managed for each additional service. Hence, it is difficult to perform the integrated management of additional services. Therefore, it is difficult to flexibly deal with package fee policies, discount benefits or the like, in which a provider offers several additional services as a package and provides the package at an inexpensive fee. Particularly, in order to offer the package fee policies, discount benefits or the like in the conventional system in which management is performed for each additional service, it is necessary to build up a new system, and an operational cost also increases. Hence, there is a limitation in integrally managing various additional services using the current system.
[0010] Therefore, it is necessary to develop an additional message service providing system and method, which enables subscribers to easily subscribe to and use additional services in consideration of users’ convenience.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION ;
[0011] The present invention is directed to a method of providing a non- prefix platform-based message service, which enables a subscriber to selectively use various additional services by inserting service identifiers into message text in one service number.
[0012] One aspect of the present invention provides a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system for converting a character message into a composite message and providing the composite message, the system including a character conversion server configured to extract a service identifier inserted into message text of a character message received from a transmission-side terminal, generate a composite message by converting the generated message text based on the extracted service identifier, and transmit the generated composite message to a short message service center (SMSC) or multimedia message service center (MMSC).
[0013] Another aspect of the present invention provides a method of providing a message service in a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system for converting a character message into a composite message and providing the composite message, the method including receiving a character message including a service identifier for converting message text of the character message, inserted into the message text, from a transmission-side terminal, extracting the service identifier from the message text, extracting a keyword from the message text, calling conversion information corresponding to the extracted keyword based on the extracted identifier, generating a composite message by converting the message text using the called conversion .
information, and transmitting the composite message to a reception-side i terminal.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
[0020] The present invention will be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown. This invention may, however, be embodied in different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein.
[0021] In a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, various additional services are provided using one service identification number. For example, various additional services such as a color message service (service identifier: X), a music message service (service identifier: M) and a location-based message service (service identifier: L) can be provided using one service identification number ‘2767.’
[0022] According to the system, a plurality of services are provided using one service identification number, and a services intended to be used among the plurality of services is selected by inserting service identifiers into : message text. Thus, a mobile communication subscriber who intends to use services can selectively use various additional services such as a color message service, a music message service and a location-based message : service, using a simple method of inserting service identifiers into the text of a character message. :
[0023] Hereinafter, a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system and a method of providing a message service using the same will be described with respect to the accompanying drawings.
[0024] FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system and a method of providing a message service using the same according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
Particularly, a case in which the subscription/cancellation for a plurality of additional services is processed through one platform and a character conversion service is provided to a service subscriber will be described in this exemplary embodiment.
[0025] FIG. 1 is a configuration diagram of the non-prefix platform- based message service providing system according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0026] As illustrated in this figure, the system 200 according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention receives a character message transmitted from a transmission-side terminal 100 through an O-MSC server 10, and generates a composite message by converting the message text of the received character message. Then, the system 200 transmits the generated composite message to a reception-side terminal 300 through a T-MSC server : 20.
[0027] Here, the system 200 includes a short message service center (SMSC) server 210 and 220, a multimedia message service center (MMSC) server 230, a short message service (SMS) database 240, a character conversion server 250, a multimedia message service (MMS) user database
260, a billing server 280 and a character conversion service subscriber database 270.
[0028] The transmission-side terminal 100 transmits a character message including transmission information, message text and reception information. A service identifier for converting the message text is inserted into the message text. The transmission-side terminal 100 may receive the message text into which the service identifier is inserted in the form of ‘service identifier (space) message text’ from a user.
[0029] The message text may be content to be converted using the character conversion service or a request related to character message service subscription. For example, the request related to character message service subscription may be a request for service subscription, service cancellation or service guide information.
[0030] Hereinafter, a system of providing a service (service identification number: 2767; service identifier: X) for converting a short ] message into a color message will be described as an example.
[0031] In order to obtain service subscription information, the transmission-side terminal 100 receives message text input in the form of ‘X help’ by inserting the identifier ‘X’ of the corresponding service into the message text, and receives the identification number 2767 of the corresponding service. The corresponding character message is sent to the
SMSCI1 210 through the O-MSC server 10, and the SMSC1 210 transmits the corresponding character message to the character conversion server 250. The character conversion server 250 transmits the character message including guide information of the service identifier ‘X’ to the transmission-side terminal 100.
[0032] Subsequently, for service subscription, the transmission-side j terminal 100 receives the message text input in the form of ‘X reg’ or ‘X subscription’ by inserting the identifier ‘X’ of the corresponding service into ] the message text, and receives the identification number ‘2767 of the corresponding service as reception information. The corresponding character : message is sent to the SMSC1 210 through the O-MSC server 10, and the
SMSC1 210 transmits the corresponding character message to the character conversion server 250, thereby performing a subscription procedure. When the subscription procedure is completed, the character conversion server 250 transmits, to the transmission-side terminal, a notification message notifying that the subscription procedure has been completed.
[0033] After the subscription procedure is completed, the user intends to transmit a message ‘Hello’ using the service (service identifier: X) for converting a short message into a color message. In this case, the transmission-side terminal 100 receives message text input in the form of ‘X
Hello.” The input form is only one embodiment, and the present invention includes all input forms in which the service identifier is inserted into the message text. When the character conversion service is used, other information included in the character message, e.g., transmission information and reception information, are input, like the conventional character conversion service. Although the character conversion service is used, separate information is not added to the reception information. Thus, it is possible to receive a message input through a reply function for the receivedmessage.
[0034] When the user intends to cancel the corresponding service, the transmission-side terminal 100 receives message text input in the form of ‘X unreg’ or ‘X cancellation,” and receives the identification number ‘2767’ of the corresponding service input as reception information. The corresponding character message is sent to the SMSC1 210 through the O-MSC server 10, and the SMSC1 210 transmits the corresponding character message to the character conversion server 250, thereby performing a cancellation procedure.
When the cancellation procedure is completed, the character conversion server 250 transmits, to the transmission-side terminal 100, a notification message notifying that the cancellation procedure has been completed.
[0035] When the user intends to use a music message service that is one of a plurality of additional services included in the service identification number 2767,” the user converts the service identifier inserted into the message text into ‘M’ while using the service in the same manner as described above. Thus, a provider can integrally manage subscribers of a color message service, a music message service and the like, using one service identification number ‘2767. The O-MSC server 10 receives a character message transmitted from the transmission-side terminal 100 and transmits the received character message to the SMSC1 210.
[0036] If the SMSC1 210 receives a character message from the O-
MSC server 10, the SMSC1 210 identifies transmission information of the received character message, and identifies whether or not the character conversion service of the transmission-side terminal is subscribed to throughthe SMS database 240. If it is identified that the character conversion service of the transmission-side terminal is subscribed to, the SMSC1 210 transmits the corresponding character message to the character conversion server 250.
[0037] The character conversion server 250 extracts a service identifier inserted into message text of the received character message from the SMSC1 210, and converts the message text based on the extracted service identifier, thereby generating a composite message including the converted message text.
[0038] Here, the character conversion server 250 includes a request management system (RMS), a provisioning management system (PMS), an other management system (OMS), a composite message service management system (CMS) and a schedule management system (SMS).
[0039] The RMS extracts a service identifier inserted into message text of the received character message and a keyword of the message text. The
RMS sorts services to be provided based on the service identifier and the keyword, and registers the corresponding services to a queue table for registering processes of each of the systems (e.g., PMS, CMS or OMS).
[0040] When the extracted keyword is a subscription or cancellation application of the character conversion service, the PMS performs a service : subscription or cancellation process in interworking with the SMS database 240, the billing server 280 and the character conversion service subscriber database 270. For example, when the extracted keyword is a subscription application of the character conversion service, the PMS identifies the : presence of possibility of service subscription by requesting the SMS database ;
240 of subscriber information of the transmission-side terminal. If it is identified that the subscription is possible, the PMS stores the information of : the corresponding subscriber in the billing server 280 and the character conversion service subscriber database 270. When the extracted keyword is a ; cancellation application of the character conversion service, the PMS deletes : the subscriber information stored in the character conversion service subscriber database 270, and deletes the corresponding service subscription information from the SMS database 240.
[0041] When the subscription or cancellation process is completed, the :
PMS may transmit, to the transmission-side terminal 100, a character message notifying that the subscription or cancellation process has been completed.
[0042] When the extracted keyword is a request for guiding the character conversion service, the OMS calls guide information on the service indicated by the corresponding service identifier, and transmits a character message including the called guide information to the transmission-side terminal. Here, the guide information may include information on service description, available period and number of available credits (services).
[0043] The CMS generates a composite message by converting the message text based on the extracted identifier. The CMS calls conversion : information corresponding to the extracted keyword and converts the message text by the called conversion information, based on the extracted service identifier, thereby generating the composite message.
[0044] Here, the CMS identifies the presence of subscription to a composite message transmission service of the transmission-side terminal 100,
surplus credits or remaining service period through the character conversion service subscriber database 270. If it is identified that the use of the composite message conversion service is possible, the CMS generates a composite message.
[0045] When the extracted service identifier indicates a color message service, the CMS checks the MMS user database 260and identifies whether : the reception-side terminal 300 is available for MMS. If it is identified that the reception-side terminal 300 is available for MMS, the CMS calls image information corresponding to the extracted keyword and then mixes the called image information and the message text, thereby generating a composite message. If it is identified that the reception-side terminal 300 is not available for MMS, the CMS calls an OTB file corresponding to the extracted keyword and then inserts the called OTB file into the message text, thereby generating a ; composite message. :
[0046] When the extracted service identifier indicates a music message service, the CMS calls a music file corresponding to the extracted keyword and then inserts the called music file into the message text, thereby generating a composite message.
[0047] When the extracted service identifier indicates a location-based : message service, the CMS calls location information corresponding to the extracted keyword or location information of the transmission-side terminal 100 in the transmission of the corresponding character message and then inserts the called location information into the message text, thereby ;
generating a composite message. The CMS transmits the generated composite message to the reception-side terminal 300.
[0048] The SMS generates statistical data by processing result data of transmitting the composite message, and transmits charge data based on the : used service period and credits to the billing server 280. For example, the
SMS generates service statistics, billing statistics, subscriber statistics and the like by extracting the data generated in the PMS and the service use data generated in the CMS in the transmission of the composite message, and performs a renewal charge request based on the completion of the service period and the exhaustion of the credits in a billing code method.
[0049] The SMS manages auto provisioning for transmitting a large quantity of simple messages for promotion, processing a large quantity of automatic subscriptions that enables users to use a service for free during a ; specific period and transmitting messages on the automatic subscriptions. The
SMS also transmits a large quantity of reminder messages to auto provisioning subscribers on a specific day.
[0050] The character conversion server 250 transmits the generated composite message to the SMSC2 220 or the MMSC1 230 according to the form of the composite message, and the transmitted composite message is transmitted to the reception-side terminal 300 through the T-MSC server 20.
[0051] FIG. 2 is a flowchart illustrating a method of providing a message service in the non-prefix platform-based message service providing system according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0052] If a character message is transmitted from the transmission-side terminal 100 (S210), the SMSC1 210 identifies whether or not the transmission-side terminal 100 of the character message has subscribed to a character conversion service through the SMS database 240 (S220). If it is identified that the transmission-side terminal 100 has subscribed to the character conversion service, the SMSC1 210 transmits the corresponding character message to the character conversion server 250 (S230).
[0053] Subsequently, the character conversion server 250 extracts a service identifier inserted into message text of the received character message and a keyword of the message text. If the corresponding message is a service subscription request or service cancellation request, the character conversion server 250 performs a subscription/cancellation process (S240), and transmits, to the transmission-side terminal 100, a notification message notifying that the subscription/cancellation process has been completed (S250).
[0054] If the corresponding message is a message for using the subscribed service, the character conversion server 250 calls conversion information corresponding to the extracted keyword based on the extracted service identifier, and converts the message text through the application of the : conversion information, thereby generating a composite message (S240).
Subsequently, the character conversion server 250 transmits the generated composite message to the MMSC1 230 (S260).
[0055] Then, the MMSCI 230 transmits the composite message to the reception-side terminal 300 (S270).
[0056] FIGS. 3 and 4 illustrate a non-prefix platform-based messageservice providing system and a method of providing a message service using the same according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
Particularly, in this exemplary embodiment, a case in which, if a service identifier is inserted into message text, a character conversion service is ; provided and a charge is taken for each service use, without a separate service subscription/cancellation process, will be described. :
[0057] FIG. 3 is a configuration diagram of the non-prefix platform- based message service providing system according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0058] As illustrated in this figure, the system 400 according to this embodiment receives a character message transmitted from a transmission- side terminal 100 through an O-MSC server 10, and generates a composite message by converting message text of the received character message. Then, ; the system 400 transmits the generated composite message to a reception-side terminal 300 through a T-MSC server 20.
[0059] Here, the non-prefix platform-based message service providing : system 400 includes an SMSC server 410 and 410, an MMSC server 430, a character conversion server 440, an MMS user database 450 and a billing server 460. :
[0060] The transmission-side terminal 100 transmits a character message including transmission information, message text and reception information. A service identifier for converting the message text is inserted into the message text. For example, when a user intends to transmit a message
‘Hello’ using a service (service identifier: X) for converting a short message into a color message, the transmission-side terminal 100 receives message text input in the form of ‘X Hello’ and transmits the received message text, without a separate service subscription procedure.
[0061] The O-MSC server 10 receives the character message transmitted from the transmission-side terminal 100 and transmits the received character message to the SMSC1 410.
[0062] If the SMSC1 410 receives the character message from the O-
MSC server 10, the SMSC1 410 identifies whether or not the service identifier is inserted into the message text of the received character message. For ; example, the SMSC1 410 identifies whether or not the service identifier is inserted into the message text of the received character message through 7-bit character analysis. If it is identified that the service identifier is inserted into the message text, the SMSC1 410 transmits the received character message to the character conversion server 440. :
[0063] The character conversion server 440 extracts the service identifier inserted into the message text of the received character message from the SMSC1 410, and converts the message text based on the extracted service identifier, thereby generating a composite message including the converted message text.
[0064] Here, the character conversion server 440 includes an RMS, a
PMS, an OMS, a CMS and an SMS.
[0065] The RMS extracts a service identifier inserted into message text of the received character message and a keyword of the message text. The
RMS sorts services to be provided based on the service identifier and the keyword, and registers the corresponding services in a queue table for registering processes of each of the systems.
[0066] When the extracted keyword is a request for guiding the character conversion service, the OMS calls guide information on the service indicated by the corresponding service identifier, and transmits a character message including the called guide information to the transmission-side terminal. Here, the guide information may include information on service description and number of available credits (services).
[0067] The CMS generates a composite message by converting the message text based on the extracted identifier. The CMS calls conversion information corresponding to the extracted keyword and converts the message text by the called conversion information, based on the extracted service identifier, thereby generating the composite message.
[0068] When the extracted service identifier indicates a color message service, the CMS checks the MMS user database 450 and identifies whether the reception-side terminal 300 is available for MMS, thereby generating a composite message suitable for the MMS.
[0069] The SMS generates statistical data by processing result data of transmitting the composite message, and transmits charge data for each composite message transmission to the billing server 280. For example, the
SMS generates service statistics, billing statistics, subscriber statistics and the like by extracting the service use data generated in the CMS in the transmission of the composite message, and performs a renewal charge requestin a billing code method.
[0070] The SMS manages auto provisioning for transmitting a large quantity of simple messages for promotion, processing a large quantity of automatic subscriptions that enables users to use a service for free during a : specific period and transmitting messages on the automatic subscriptions. The
SMS also transmits a large quantity of reminder messages to auto provisioning subscribers on a specific day.
[0071] The character conversion server 440 transmits the generated composite message to the SMSC2 420 or the MMSC1 430 according to the form of the composite message, and the transmitted composite message is transmitted to the reception-side terminal 300 through the T-MSC server 20.
[0072] FIG. 4 is a flowchart illustrating a method of providing a message service in the non-prefix platform-based message service providing system according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0073] If a character message is transmitted from the transmission-side terminal 100 (S410), the SMSC1 410 identifies whether or not a service identifier is inserted into message text of the character message (S420). If it is identified that the service identifier is inserted into the message text, the
SMSC1 410 transmits the received character message to the character conversion server 440 (S430).
[0074] Subsequently, the character conversion server 440 extracts the service identifier inserted into the message text of the received character : message and a keyword of the message text. The character conversion server
440 calls conversion information corresponding to the extracted keyword based on the extracted service identifier, and converts the message text through the application of the conversion information, thereby generating a : composite message (S440).
[0075] Subsequently, the character conversion server 440 transmits the generated composite message to the MMSC1 430 (S450). Since a charge is applied for each composite message transmission, charge data for each composite message transmission is transmitted to the billing server 460.
[0076] Subsequently, the MMSC1 430 transmits the composite message to the reception-side terminal 300 (S460).
[0077] FIGS. 5A and 5B are diagrams illustrating examples of a message service provided by a non-prefix platform-based message service providing system according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0078] As illustrated in FIG. 5A, when a user intends to transmit a message ‘I miss U~’ using a service (service identifier: X) for converting a short message into a color message, the transmission-side terminal 100 receives message text input in the form of ‘X I miss U~." The transmission- side terminal 100 receives a number of the reception-side terminal 300, input as reception information, and transmits a character message including corresponding message information, reception information and transmission information.
[0079] The character conversion server 250 or 440 extracts a service identifier ‘X* and a keyword ‘miss’ from the character message and then identifies whether or not the reception-side terminal 300 is a terminal available for an MMS by the reception information. If it is identified that the reception- side terminal is available for the MMS, the character conversion server 250 or 440 calls an image corresponding to the extracted keyword ‘miss.’
Subsequently, the character conversion server 250 or 440 generates a composite message by mixing the called image and the message text.
[0080] FIG. 5B illustrates a case in which the reception-side terminal 300 is not available for MMS. In this case, the character conversion server 250 or 440 calls an OTB file corresponding to the extracted keyword ‘miss,’ and generates a composite message by inserting the OTB file into the message text.
[0081] According to the present invention, various additional services can be selectively subscribed to and used by inputting simple service identifiers in one service number through a non-prefix platform.
[0082] Thus, a mobile communication subscriber can use various additional services through one service number without memorizing individual ] service codes. Particularly, since service identifiers are inserted into message text, it is possible to use a reply function provided as a basic function in most cellular phones, thereby increasing convenience and application of services.
[0083] Further, since a provider provides various additional services through one platform, it is possible to provide package fee policies or discount benefits in which various additional services are integrated. Also, various additional services are integrated through one platform, so that it is possible to effectively operate services and to reduce cost for services.
[0084] In the drawings and specification, there have been disclosed : typical exemplary embodiments of the invention and, although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation.
As for the scope of the invention, it is to be set forth in the following claims.
Therefore, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the following claims.
