Abstract

The invention has an object to provide a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium, having a low incidence of errors when used as the magnetic recording medium, and a magnetic recording medium using the glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium. The invention provides a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium, in which when an absolute value of a difference between a flatness determined by supporting both diametrically opposing edge portions of the glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium from an underside surface thereof, applying a load on an upper surface of a central portion of the glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium for 48 hours, followed by removing the load, and performing measurement at a time when 5 hours have elapsed since the removal of the load, and a flatness before applying the load is defined as an anelasticity deformation amount A, the anelasticity deformation amount A is 4.2 mm or less.
