Abstract
A connector that achieves a satisfactory joint or coupling between lengths of piping, tubing and/or ducting with ease of installation and/or removal as and when required without the use of additional tooling to achieve the relevant joint or coupling. The connector including: a hollow body having a first protrusion adjacent to a second protrusion; and a cover extending over at least a portion of the first protrusion, wherein at least part of a first segment of the cover is restrained between the first protrusion and the second protrusion prior to the pipe being received, and wherein upon receiving the pipe, a second segment of the cover is configured to be crimped to engage the pipe to provide a fluidly sealed connection between the pipe and the hollow body.
Claims (25)
1. A connector for receiving a pipe, the connector including: a hollow body having a first protrusion adjacent to a second protrusion; and a cover extending over at least a portion of the first protrusion, wherein at least part of a first segment of the cover is restrained between the first protrusion and the second protrusion prior to the pipe being received, and wherein upon receiving the pipe, a second segment of the cover is configured to be crimped to engage the pipe to provide a fluidly sealed connection between the pipe and the hollow body.
2. The connector of claim 1, wherein the hollow body includes one or more ridges.
3. The connector of claim 2, wherein the one or more ridges extend a shorter distance from the hollow body in comparison to the first protrusion and/or the second protrusion.
4. The connector of claims 2 or 3, wherein the one or more ridges are located closer to an end of the hollow body in comparison to the first protrusion.
5. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the first protrusion includes a retaining face that faces towards the second protrusion.
6. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the hollow body includes a fastening portion.
7. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the cover is substantially circular.
8. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the first segment that extends transversely from the second segment.
9. The connector of claim 7, wherein the first segment is arcuate.
10. The connector of claims 8 or 9, wherein the at least part of the first segment extends into a channel between the first protrusion and the second protrusion to restrain the at least part of the first segment therebetween.
11. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least part of the cover is outboard of the hollow body to provide a gap therebetween.
12. The connector of claim 11, wherein the gap is configured to subsequently receive the pipe.
13. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the at least part of the first segment is restrained between the first protrusion and the second protrusion by being configured to engage therewith.
14. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the cover is configured to rotate around the hollow body whilst the at least part of the first segment is restrained between the first protrusion and the second protrusion.
15. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the hollow body includes a first aperture that is larger than a second aperture.
16. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the hollow body is substantially circular.
17. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the cover includes copper.
18. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the hollow body includes brass.
19. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the cover extends to be substantially flush with an end of the hollow body.
20. The connector of any one of the preceding claims, comprising a further cover extending over at least a portion of the hollow body for receiving a further pipe.
21. The connector of claim 20, wherein at least part of the further cover is restrained between two protrusions prior to the pipe being received.
22. The connector of claim 20 or 21, wherein upon receiving the further pipe, a segment of the further cover is configured to be crimped to engage the further pipe to provide a fluidly sealed connection between the further pipe and the hollow body.
23. A method for making a connector for receiving a pipe, the method including the steps of: locating a cover over one or more ridges along a hollow body; situating at least part of a first segment of the cover between a first protrusion and a second protrusion along the hollow body; deforming the at least part of the first segment in order to restrain it between the first protrusion and the second protrusion; and crimping a second segment of the cover to engage the pipe to form a fluidly sealed connection between the pipe and the hollow body.
24. The method of claim 23, wherein the step of deforming the at least part of the first segment, in order to restrain it between the first protrusion and the second protrusion, includes crimping the at least part of the first segment.
25. The method of claim 23 or 24, wherein the step of deforming the at least part of the first segment, in order to restrain it between the first protrusion and the second protrusion, includes deforming the at least part of the first segment into a channel between the first protrusion and the second protrusion. 2927161v1 2927161v1 2927161v1
