Abstract

The present invention provides a showerhead 100, and a water jet 200 for a showerhead, that is specifically configured to aerate at least some of the water passing through the water jet. The water jet 200 comprises a water passage, an air passage 206, an outlet for the aerated foamy water, a first conduit 204 linking the water passage to the air passage 206 to aerate the water, and a second conduit 208 linking the air passage 206 to the outlet. The first conduit 204 has a central vertical axis 204a and the second conduit 208 has a central vertical axis that is substantially in line with the central vertical axis of the first conduit 204. The first conduit tapers outwardly from its central vertical axis 204a along a portion of its length in a downstream direction and defines a flow path for water passing therethrough. The second conduit 208 tapers inwardly towards its central vertical axis along a portion of its length in a downstream direction, and has a first section 208b and a second section 208c, where the first section 208b has a reduced inward taper relative to the second section and includes an impact area for water travelling along the flow path to further aerate the water. The water jet may require less precision in manufacturing tolerances and may be a more cost-effective solution for producing a softer flow of water compared to prior art arrangements. The invention has particular application for handheld showerheads which have multiple spray arrays.
