Abstract

Disclosed is a flooring system (10) comprising a flooring member (12, 14’). The disclosure notes the present flooring system (10) avoids damaging or splitting flooring members as a tongue member (22) of the present flooring system (10) does not exert pressure on the flooring members (12, 14’). The flooring member (12, 14’) has a substantially flat flooring face (20, 20’), a first groove (16, 16’), a second groove (18, 18’) and an elongate tongue member (22). The first groove (16, 16’) extends along a first side of the flooring member (12, 14’). The second groove (18, 18’) extends along a second opposite side of the flooring member (12, 14’). Each of the first (16, 16’) and second (18, 18’) grooves are arranged to receive the elongate tongue member (22) such that the flooring member (12, 14’) is connectable to an adjacently disposed other flooring member (12, 14’) by engaging the tongue member (22) in a first (16, 16’) or second (18, 18’) groove of the adjacently disposed other flooring member (12, 14’). The flooring member (12, 14’) is formed of fibre cement material of density between about 1200 kg/m3 and about 1400 kg/m3. The width of the first groove (16, 16’) is greater than the thickness of the tongue member (22) such that the tongue member (22) is freely receivable in the first groove (16, 16’) and retained in the first groove (16, 16’) by adhesive.
