Abstract
A cold cathode florescent lamp (CCFL) for illumination is disclosed. The lamp comprises a glass tube (17). Cold cathode electrodes (1) are disposed at both ends of the glass tube (17). A fluorescent layer is formed on an inner surface of the glass tube (1). Each of the cold cathode electrodes (1) comprises a base metal (7), lead wires (9a, 9b), a helical wire coil (3) and an emitter-coated coil (21). A base metal (7) is connected to front ends of the lead wires (9a, 9b) for connection with a power source. The helical wire coil (3) is formed by helically winding a tungsten or tungsten alloy wire around a cup shape. The helical wire coil (3) is connected to the base metal (7) in a manner such that it is erected in a length direction of the glass tube (17). The emitter-coated coil (21) is inserted in the helical wire coil (3) and coated with an emitter (5) for inducing emissions of electrons.
