Abstract

A lock is disclosed for a sliding wing comprising a pivoting lock tongue (14, 16) and an operating component (12) which can engage with the lock tongue (14, 16). The lock tongue is pivotable between a locking position (left) and an unlocking position (centre) to lock and unlock the door or window. The operating component (12) slides between a first position (left) and a second position (centre) and engages with the lock tongue (14, 16) so that linear movement of the operating component causes pivoting of the lock tongue between the unlocking and locking positions. In one embodiment a snib is operatively associated with the operating component (via apertures 125) to move it between the first and second positions. A drive component (18) engages with the operating component (12) and is movable between a lock opening position (left), a lock closing position (centre) and a deadlocking position (right). Movement of the drive component (18) into the deadlocking position causes the operating component (12) to be held in the second position so that it cannot be moved by the snib.
