Abstract

A trailer including a main frame supporting stub-axled wheels, a draw bar, and a deck capable of bearing a load, where the deck can be lowered to the ground in a completely flat, balanced and unhindered motion by means of a hydraulic jack situated at the base of the draw bar. The jack is connected to a scissor-action mechanism which enables the deck to be lowered or lifted via four pivoting levers.

Description

I 3 S 7 2 2 PATENTS ACT 1953 LOW LOAD TRAILOR (a) I Arvid James O'Sullivan, of 66 Rutherford Drive, Waikanae Beach, New Zealand, a New Zealand citizen. (b) Do hereby declare this invention to be described in the following statement: (c) This invention relates to the transport industry for the purpose of moving heavy or awkward objects.
The objective of the invention is to provide a trailor that lowers flat to the ground for loading and transporting.
The trailor deck lowers flat to the ground by the use of an hydraulic jack situated at the base of the draw bar which is connected to a scissor-action mechanism which enables the trailor deck to be lowered or lifted. The trailor deck is a sub frame which is connected to the main frame and leading link axle assembly by way of four pivotal arms.
Due to the nature of the design, the trailor cannot have a full axle, in place of this, the wheels are attached to the leading pivot arms which are INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE OF N.Z. 2 - MAY 2005 RECEIVED 2. 539722 attached to the main frame by two self locating bearings and bearing blocks ( standard trailor springs are still used for suspension).
Once the trailor deck is raised, it self locates via triangular shaped lugs on sub-frame and frame.
The tail-gate, when closed becomes the rear locking mechanism byway of cam-locks.
The front of the sub-frame, when in its up position, is locked in place automatically by spring loaded pins.
In addition to this application the said trailor can be adapted to pick up and carry loaded pellets without the use of a fork lift.
The sub-frame can be removed and a pellet lifting mechanism consisting of hydraulic jack and fork arms can be attached to the main frame for the purpose of lifting pellets. A removable floor can then be inserted for the purpose of transportation.
WHAT I CLAIM IS: A trailor that lowers flat to the ground for the purpose of loading heavy or awkward objects for transportation.
In addition to this application the trailor can be adapted to pick up pellets and transport them without the use of a fork lift.

Hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me and the method by which it is performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement.
(C). Here begin full description (C).This invention relates to the transport industry for the of invention. purpose of loading and moving heavy or awkward objects.
This invention relates to a trailer in which' the load bearing deck is moveable between the ground and an elevated position. The entire load bearing deck descends completely flat to the ground in one motion by means of a hydraulic jack and raises to the elevated position by same means.
Page: 1 DESCRIPTION This invention relates to the movement of a deck capable of bearing a load for trailers.
The deck capable of bearing a load is moveable between ground and an elevated position for the purpose of loading and moving heavy or awkward equipment.
Uses for this would be utilised for both domestic and commercial transport.
The deck capable of bearing a load is releaseably connected at the four corners of the main frame by a pivotal lever which is connected to the main wheeled frame which is lowered by means of an hydraulic jack positioned in the center of the draw bar and a scissor-mechanism connected to the front of the deck capable of bearing a load.
The tailgate acts as a locking device and ramp. The locking device of the tailgate consists of two side caps which fit over the main frame keeping the ends of the main frame secure and holds the deck capable of bearing a load in an upright position. When the tailgate is released and the two front spring loaded pins are withdrawn the hydraulic jack can then be released allowing the deck capable of bearing a load to descend to the ground in one completely balanced motion. When equipment has been placed on the deck capable of bearing a load the hydraulic jack is then operated to raise the deck to an upright position.
When the deck capable of bearing a load is in an upright position it self locates on four angled guides which are attached to the underside at the back of the main trailer frame and deck capable of bearing a load. The two front spring loaded pins automatically lock the deck capable of bearing a load in an upright position.
The main frame of the trailer has a pivotal arm suspension which is attached to the main frame by two self aligning bearings and is sprung by standard trailer leaf springs. The purpose of this is to eliminate the need for a one piece axle so as to allow the deck capable of bearing a load to lower to the ground without hindrance.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE OF N.Z. 1 ;l JUL 2007 pprci\/cn Page: & EXPLANATION OF FIGURES Fig 1, Is a three dimensional view of the low load trailer showing the combination of all figures.
Fig 2, Shows the deck capable of bearing a load in an upright position.
The deck capable of bearing a load is raised when the hydraulic jack is operated, activating the scissor mechanism, pulling the deck forward where it pivots on four levers causing it to move forward and up.
Fig 3, Shows the deck capable of bearing a load in the lowered position.
The tailgate is released then the front spring loaded pins are withdrawn and then the release valve on the hydraulic jack is activated causing the deck capable of bearing a load to descend in one complete balanced motion to the ground.
Figs 4, 4.1 & 4.2, Show the different views of the locking and locating mechanism.
When the deck capable of bearing a load is raised the four angle locating brackets on the main frame locate on the four angle brackets on the deck capable of bearing a load. When the deck capable of bearing a load reaches its upmost position the spring pins automatically lock in thus securing the load.
Fig 5, Shows the suspension system.
The main frame has a pivotal arm attached by two main self aligning bearings to the main frame and sprung by standard leaf springs.
