Abstract

A charcoal retort (1) comprising at least one charcoal oven (4), a firebox (6) provided externally of each oven, to heat the oven, an air inlet provided in the retort that is located externally of each oven, a pipe (12) to feed combustion gases directly through a wall of each oven through to a manifold (14) located in the firebox (6), and a draw off chimney (20) operatively connected to the manifold (14) with the burner (28), linking the interior, to the exterior of the retort (1), wherein the draw off chimney (20) is provided with two means (26) of regulating the air flow through it to control the temperature of each oven is disclosed, wherein the oven(s) (4) may also be mounted on the wheels (8) to enable them to be moved within the housing for the purpose of transfer of feed energy to the firebox.
