Abstract
A multilayered coated article such as a windshield, comprises: a transparent substrate which is tinted glass, solar control glass or coloured glass; first metal-containing predominantly inorganic coating layer that has visual transparency and has a refractive index selected from titania or silica; a second metal-containing predominantly inorganic coating layer which is silica when the first coating layer is titania or is titania when the first coating layer is silica; a third metal containing predominantly inorganic coating layer that that has visual transparency wherein the third coating layer is the same as the first coating layer and a transparent conducting oxide coating layer as part of the silica coating layer between the substrate and the surface of the third metal-containing layer facing away from the substrate to provide a middle layer comprised of combination of several coating layers so that the transparent conducting oxide coating layer provides for multilayered coated article having a high refractive index in the UV and visible spectrum but a low refractive index in the NIR spectrum. The transparent conducting oxide coating layer can be fluorine-doped tin oxide.
