Abstract

A control valve 1 for a gas-fired radiant heater includes a valve spindle 11 operated by a control knob fitted to spindle 17. In the position shown, the valve is closed, and gas is prevented from flowing to burner 4 by gasket 15, and to burner 4' by gasket 14. To provide gas to burner 4, the valve spindle is pushed inwards so that gasket 15 is also pushed inwards, allowing gas to flow in the space 10 surrounding spindle 11 and into burner 4. The gasket 11 may be retained in the valve open position by any suitable means, such as an electromagnet. To allow gas to flow to burner 4', the spindle 11 is moved outwards by rotating the control knob and pulling it back. This causes a spigot 19 to move within a groove 20 in the valve housing. This causes gasket 14 to be moved outwards, allowing gas to flow past it into burner 4'.
