Abstract
The reaction of a fluorophenyl Grignard reagent with a boron trihalide to produce a fluorophenyl borane is described. The Grignard reagent may be in ether in which case the ether is replaced with an non-ether solvent and boron trihalide is added to produce the fluorophenyl borane. In another method C6F5MgBr is reacted with BF3 or BF3 etherate to produce the fluorophenyl borane. In a further method hexafluorobenzene is reacted with a Grignard reagent in the presence of a catalyst and boron trihalide is added to produce the fluorophenyl borane.
