Description

New Zealand No. 261568 International No. PCT/DE94/00173

Priority Date(s):

Complete Specification Filed:

Class: £©l£fc&7.SS...

Publication Date:...2..8.MAY...1398.. P.O. Journal No:

NEW ZEALAND PATENTS ACT 1953 -v COMPLETE SPECIFICATION

Q}

Title of Invention:

Door fitting with escutcheon m

Name, address and nationality of applicant(s) as in international application form:

DORMA GMBH + CO KG, of Breckerfelder Strasse 42-48, Ennepetal D-58256, Federal Republic of Germany,

2615 68

INTERNAL FILE REFERENCE 1992023 TITLE: DOOR FITTING WITH PLATE 5 DESCRIPTION

The invention relates to a door fitting which is provided with a plate, in particular a mounting plate or rosette or the like. This mounting plate is applied in cover shape with projecting edge on a base construction, with which it is then 10 positively joined.

In the field of building mountings, it is important that mounting plates are attached permanently, whilst for possible assembly and necessary service work, these mounting plates nevertheless have to be removed without destruction. 15 Thereby care is to be taken that attachment means are not to be noticed for optical reasons.

From the EP-O 484 594 A1 a mounting plate attachment has become known, in which a cover shaped plate with a rounded edge is pressed over a base plate. 20 Thereby the retention between the base plate and the plate is secured along the circumference by means of spring web notches consisting of various sections along the circumference with the corresponding counter notches. This type of attachment is supposed to reduce the assembly time.

25 The object of the invention is to create a door mounting which, based on a base body, it can be adapted universally to the local conditions in design, is easily exchangeable, is cost favourable in production and is not noticeable in its overall appearance, whereby the clamping effect and therewith the holding of a solid glass dnor is not to be reduced nor is it to be i ncreased. Also it must be ensured 30 that the mounting also can be adapted as regards its outer appearance to the other mounting parts which are used.

The invention is solved thereby that the mounting plate is attached on a carrier by means of a clip or notch connection, whereby the mounting plate is designed 35 such that a recess is worked into its centre, dominant, visibte field or surface at the upper side, into which the recess, depending on requirements, the necessary plate insert can be inserted. The plate insert can consist of brass, stainless steel or of a lacquered metal or steel or of thin stone plates or wood ^ inserts. Due to this type of design the moulding plate can also be produced in 40 different manners, in one instance as plastics injection moulded part or

261568

alternatively as light metal die casting part. By means of this invention though it is possible to take care of the aesthetic requirements of a customer practically in all application fields, because also a subsequent exchange of the plate insert is provided in addition to the adaptation of the plate to the changing use 5 possibilities, without that therefore the overall mounting has to be exchanged.

By using a sub-construction, in this case a carrier, a large surface unit can be secured, for example in the attachment to a glass door. Thereby this carrier, if it consists of plastics material, simultaneously can be considered as an 10 intermediate layer. A cover in the form of a plate can be turned inside out over the carrier without additional tools, whereby it leads to a locking or clipping between the carrier and the plate during the correct abutment.

The invention is explained in more detail by means of different schematically 15 represented embodiment examples. It is shown in:

FIGURE 1 mounting in section seen from above with section solid glass door

FIGURE 2 detail of a sectional assembly plate

20

FIGURE 3 mounting in front view

FIGURE 4 solid glass door with mountings

25 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

In Figure 4 the object in accordance with the invention is represented in the built-in condition, whereby the mounting (16) is applied both at the upper as well as the lower side of the door. In the lower region a floor door lock (17) is 30 mounted by way of a rotational axle (10) to the mounting (16). Similarly the door wings (14) is provided on the right hand side with an upper and a lower lock (15).

If the mounting (16) is now considered in its mounted embodiment, then this is 35 clearly illustrated in Figure 1. A solid glass door (1) is provided with the mounting parts (16) and (18). Thereby the mounting part (16) is shown in section, so as to explain how the connection between the plate (2) and the carrier below is provided. In principle the mounting (18) is constructed in the 4 same manner. The solid glass door (1) is joined positively by connection

-3-

261561

elements, which are not illustrated, to the carrier (3) of the mounting (16) and also to the carrier, which also is not illustrated, below the mounting (18).

Thereby the carriers (3) are to be produced of light metal or as injection moulded parts, which allow a fitting of the plates (2) or (4), that is the sides (19) 5 must be fully resilient or resilient in partial zones. However, it is possible to produce the carrier (3) of a plastics material. The carrier (3) has sides (19)

facing away from the door panel, which in their end regions have engagement projections or noses (5), so as to receive the mounting plates (2) and (4). Thereby the design of the mounting plates (2) and (4) is to be such that a 10 displacement is possible across the engagement noses (5). Therewith there results from the engagement noses (5) and the circumferential side wall (11) of the mounting plates (2) and (4) a secure notch retention (6), which is easily demountable from the outside. The plate (2) and (4) therewith presents a type of over-crowning or covering of the carrier (3).

15

The mounting plate (2) and (4) has further characteristics, which are more clearly recognisable in the detailed representation in Figure 2. The side wall (11) of the mounting plates (2) and (4) terminates, for example, in a projecting circumferential edge (13). This edge (13) can be simple web, but it also can, as 20 is illustrated in Figure 1, be bevelling. Towards the visible upper side (12) of the mounting plate (2) and (4), a recess (9) is introduced in the mounting plate (2). An insert (8) can be inserted into the recess (9), which insert can consist of diffierent materials. Such inserts can, for example, be bronze inserts, or stainless steel inserts, or lacquered inserts of different materials, or wood inserts or also 25 stone inserts. Due to the created recess (9) therewith the mounting (16) and (18) can be adapted to the optical conditions of the surroundings. Such adaptation can also take place subsequently, that is when the overall surroundings of the mounting changes due to renovation work then an adaptation of the mounting to the new surroundings can be performed, also cost 30 favourably by exchange of the insert (8) because the actual mounting need not be exchanged.

REFERENCE NUMERALS

-4-

261568

10 8

9

10

11

12

15 13

14

15

16

17

20 18 19

Glass door Mounting plate Carrier

Mounting plate Projection Notch retention Plate insert Recess Rotational axle Side walls Upper side Edge

Door panel or wing Door lock Mounting Floor door lock Mounting Side

«
