Description

Priority Date(s): *2.3 ;Complete Specification Filed: ;Class: fi.. ;Publication Date: ... P£C.t985..... P.O. Journal, No: ;Patents Form No. 5 Number ;PATENTS ACT 1953 Dated ;COMPLETE SPECIFICATION ;REPOSITIONABLE FASTENER FOR DISPOSABLE DIAPER ;//We COLGATE-PALMOLIVE COMPANY a corporation organised under the laws of the State of Delaware, United States of America of 300 Park Avenue, New York, New York 10022, United States of America do hereby declare the invention for which yiwe pray that a Patent may be granted to km/us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: ;- 1 - ;r ;2022 ;BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION FIELD OP THE INVENTION ;This Invention relates to disposable diapers or the like and more particularly to a tape strip assembly for enabling repositioning of a diaper on an infant. ;DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART ;In the past diapers of various types have been produced employing an absorbent pad between a top sheet and a backing sheet formed of a lightweight waterproof material such as polyethylene* Tape strips having self-stick pressure sensitive type adheslves are used for fastening the diaper on an Infant, When the tape strip Is adhered to the backing strip, It Is often difficult to remove without tearing the backing sheet so as to permit repositioning of a poorly fitted diaper or reuse of the diaper when j found to be unsolled.

I

Previously various expedients have been used in an attempt to overcome the aforesaid difficulties. To this end the backing sheet has been made of a heavier grade polyethylene sheet I but not only has this proven too expensive, but the heavier grade backing sheet has rendered the diaper less pliable and comfortable to the user.

Weaker adheslves have been utilized, but this has the , disadvantage that the diaper may fall off upon strenuous movement ,

I

of the user. .

-2-

202253

Accordingly, the present Invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior problem solutlois by providing for a diaper tape strip assembly rendering the diaper repositionable and reuseable.

SUMMARY OP THE INVENTION

The present invention conceives 6f a tape strip assembly for a disposable diaper having an absorbent pad between a backing sheet and a top sheet. The tape strip assembly includes a base tape with a first adhesive for securing a portion of the base tape to the backing sheet, A releasable strip is secured by second adhesive means to the base tape with a third adhesive being on the releasable strip so that after initial attachment of the releasable strip to a portion of the backing sheet when fitting a diaper on the user, the releasable strip oan be peeled from the base tape to allow repositioning of the diaper.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OP THE DRAWING Pig, 1 is a partial plan view of a diaper employing the

I

tape strip assembly according to the present inventioni and, j Pig, 2 is a sectional view taken along the plane of | line 2-2 in Fig, 1,

-3-

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With continuing reference to the acoompanylng drawing, the tape strip assembly according to the Invention Is Indicated at 10 and used In conjunction with any otherwise conventional disposable diaper 12 or the like.

The diaper 12 Includes the usual absorbent pad 14 of woodfluff or the like positioned between a backing sheet 16 preferably formed of a thin waterproof polyethylene sheet material, and a top sheet IB preferably of a non-woven material of polyethylene or polypropylene fibers. A release sheet 20 Is heat sealed or bonded to the top sheet 18,

The tape strip assembly Includes a cloth-type base tape 22, which Is bonded by a first adhesive 24 to the backing sheet 16 for which It has a relatively strong affinity. An adhesive 26 Is coated on the base tape 22 and a release strip 28 Is positioned on the base tape 22 over the adhesive 26, The adhesive 26 has greater affinity for the base tape 22 than for the release strip 28, A third adhesive 30 1b coated on the release strip 28, When not fastened about a user, the tape strip aBsembly 10 Is folded about the diaper with the adhesive 30 engaging the release sheet 20, The adhesive 30 has greater affinity for the release strip 28 than the release sheet 20 so that the tape stripassembly may be readily peeled fromthe release sheet 20,

-4-

202253

In use, the tape strip assembly is employed to fasten the diaper on the infant. Should the diaper be poorly positioned or desired to be reused because it is unsolled, the lesser affinit of the adhesive 26 for the release strip 28 than the adhesive 30 for the release strip 28 or the backing sheet 16 will permit peeling of the release strip from the base tape 22 not only facilitating removal of the diaper without tearing of the backing sheet but alBO permitting reuse of the diaper with base tape 22 and adhesive 26 as the new tab for seourement purposes.
