Description

199126

N.Z. NO.

NEW ZEALAND B&.VKQiVJl^lfl

Patents Act 1953 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION DEPOT BODIES FOR NOSE-CLIPS HAVING A SPECIAL SHAPE

We, HOECHST AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT D-6230 Frankfurt am Main 80, Federal Republic of Germany, Chemical Manufacturers, a corporation organised under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a Patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:-

- 1 -

- 2 -

1&9126

In New Zealand Patent Specification No 192666 depot bodies on the basis of silicone rubber are described which may have different shapes. According to a preferred embodiment, they are cylindrical. The cited depot bodies are suitable for the administration of active substances by means of nose-clips as described in New Zealand Patent Specification No 166990.

Nose-clips consisting of a bow the ends of which are provided with means for receiving active substances in the form of depot bodies, said ends of the bow and said receiving means being inclined towards each other and turned to face each other, or the surfaces of the depot bodies mounted thereon being inclined towards each other and turned to face each other are described in New Zealand Patent Specification No 193133.

Cattle are generally kept in stalls where they are either tethered or allowed to run freely. Calves may furthermore be kept in boxes. In the latter two cases, it has been observed that clips as described in the above specifications with depot bodies of cylindrical shape were stripped off more frequently than in tethering stalls. The intended effect of nose-clip administration of course is thus not attained.

By "cattle", there is to be understood in this context and hereinafter the bovine species, unless otherwise stated.

Surprisingly, it has now been found that when using depot bodies having a triangular outline, the clips remain in place in the case of all these kinds of stabling and the intended effect is thus ensured.

According to a broad aspect of the invention there is provided a nose clip consisting of a bow and means for receiving depot bodies and equipped with depot bodies for the administration of active substance wherein said depot bodies have a triangular outline or an outline derived from a triangle, the sides of the triangle directed towards the bow of the nose clip forming an angle of from 40 to less than 180°.

By outline there is to be understood that surface of the depot body facing the receiving means, that is, the

- 3 -

199126

H3g=feS^g=a?-2

surface of the depot body supported by the receiving means or connecting parts as described in New Zealand Patent Specification No 193133.

The sides of the triangle forming the angleo(are de~ 5 fined as being sides 1 and 2, side 3 is positioned opposite to the angle. They are rectilinear; alternatively, they may be dented or curved, so that outlines derived from a triangle are formed, for example outlines of kidney, kite or rhomb shape.

10 The invention will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, the FIGURES of which represent: FIGURE 1: outline, triangular FIGURE 2: outline, curved (kite-shaped)

FIGURE 3: outline, dented (kidney-shaped)

15 FIGURE 4; side view of a depot body M with connecting parts

5, 6 and part of a bow 7.

apices

The efrgoo are rounded off in accordance with the ana-

otpioe-S

tomic conditions. It is not required that all three aflgoe of the triangle are rounded off identically. The sides of 20 the triangle ma'y be of identical or different length.

Preferably side 1 is rectilinear, side 2 is curved concave-ly (dented), side 3 is curved convexly and the angled is from 50° to 110°, preferably 95°t

The side of the depot body facing the nasal septum of 25 the animal is rounded off, cone- or saddle-shaped, and adapted to the anatomic conditions in the nasal vestibule.

The depot body may be of identical overall thickness: however, for technical and tolerability reasons and because of better fitting, a depot body is preferred the front part 30 of which is thicker than the back part (that is, in the direction of the interior of the nose, see FIGURE 4,4).

The depot bodies of the invention are suitable for administering active substances to animals, especially cattle, by means of a nose-clip.

35 Suitable for this purpose is for example the nose-clip described in New Zealand Patent Specification No 19 3133;,;.

The depot bodies may be manufactured in principle frs6,

t

■7

- 4 -

any appropriate material which is physiologically accept able; preferred, however, are depot bodies on the basis silicone rubber. They can be prepared according to the process disclosed in New Zealand Patent Specification 5 No 192666.
