Abstract

Process and low capacity plant (10, 12, 13) for continuous production of block foam. An MDI-based chemical component is mixed with a polyol and carbon dioxide (CO 2) and the foamed mixture is applied to a substrate (11) which is moved towards a block cut zone (16). The amount of CO 2 is kept at a value above 1%, preferably 1.5-5%, of the polyol component to achieve intense foaming and avoid purge under the foam. The formulation is changed by keeping the amount of CO 2 at a substantially constant value while varying the amount of water depending on the desired overall expansion index and foam density. Thus, it is possible to use a small-size and low-capacity plant, pre-assembled in standard containers in the form of operational units, to produce foams with different densities.
