Abstract
En detektor for forløpere for mikrokast benytter et flertall radarstråler (1-4) og sampler radar-retursignaler i hver stråle, fra meteorologis- ke radarsignal-reflektorer, og prosesserer (16) retursignalene på en statistisk måte for å bestemme gjennomsnittlig radar-reflektivitet og å trekke ut dopplersignal-parametere. Disse parametere brukes til å bestemme et andre sett av parametere, gjennom- snittlig dopplerfrekvens innen hver radarstråle, spektral doppler-spredning innen hver radarstråle, og skjevheten til dopplerspekteret i hver stråle. Det annet sett av parametere prosesseres (18-20) for å etablere nærvær av et mikrokast, forutsi over- flatenedslag, til til nedslag, utfallsvindens overflatested og bane, og utfallsvindens styrke.
