Abstract

Cross connect method for STM-1 signals of the synchronous digital multiplex hierarchy. It is intended for data blocks of different multiplex structure of the synchronous digital multiplex hierarchy to be processed jointly in a cross-connect device. For this purpose, AU-4 administration units of STM-1 signals, controlled by a microprocessor (55) via a bus (57), are demultiplexed in virtual container groups of approximately the same size as TUG-31 and TU-31 (2, 4, 6). After removing additional signals no longer needed (8/14, 48', 16), an individual switching network clock adaptation pointer (10/18) and an individual switching network additional information (12/20) are in each case added to these virtual container groups for forming uniform switching network input signals (D39, D52) (top of figure). After being switched around in a switching network, the switching network clock adaptation pointers and additional information items are removed again from the switching network output signals and are evaluated. They (D59, D52) are then subjected to a corresponding multiplexing method for forming new STM-1 signals (bottom of figure).
