Anti-sopp- og anti-mikrobielle bakteriestammer av Bacillus og Serratia blir anvendt ved fremstilling og konservering av dyreforstoffer laget fra vegetabilsk for. Bakteriestammer av Bacillus subtilis og Serratia rubidaea er spesielt anvendbare for slike formål. Disse bakteriestammene tillater innballing av høy ved høyere fuktighetsinnhold. Blandinger av disse stammene med melkesyreproduserende bakteriestammer, såsom stammer av Lactobacillus. Streptococcus. Enterococcus. Lactococcus og Pediococcus blir anvendt ved fremstilling og konservering av silofor.
