En kopolymer for anvendelse i eller som polymert binde-middel i esendebelegg-omfatter•en kopolymer dannet av en dominerende mengde, fortrinnsvis ikke mer enn 99 vekt% og mer foretrukket 99-90 vekt%, av én eller flere første monomerer, og en mindre mengde, minst 1 vekt% og mer foretrukket 1-10 vekt%, av minst én kopolymeriserbar, termisk labil komonomer, hvorved mengden av termisk labil komonomer er tilstrekkelig til å bevirke dekomponering av den resulterende kopolymer i fragmenter med lavere molekylvekt ved eksponering for flamme. De foretrukne polymere bindemidler er termisk labile (met)akrylkopolymerer fremstilt-med.mindre mengder kopolymeriserbare aldehyder, såsom metakrolein.
