Abstract
Drilling pipes for the formation of a drilling string, especially intended for deviation drilling. To achieve small adhesion to the wall of the hole being drilled, the drill pipe comprises a substantially helical pipe (1) with a head (2,3) at each end.
Description
The present invention relates to drill pipe for forming a drill string, especially intended for deviation drilling, i.e. drilling that is carried out so that the drilling direction is initially mainly vertical, while the direction gradually changes to one side, so that the drilling direction eventually forms a larger or smaller angle with the vertical direction, up to 90°.
This type of drilling enables drilling into several mutually separate deposits from one starting point, and is used in offshore drilling.
Deviation drilling, however, and especially when the angle of deviation from the vertical direction is large, causes problems when it comes to the transport of drilling cuttings. In addition, the friction against the drill hole becomes large, and insufficient weight can occur on the drill bit. In general, the weight of a conventional drill string will be a problem when the more or less horizontal part of the borehole has a large length.
The problem of transporting cuttings will increase with the angle of inclination and the length of the hole. With a large deviation angle, there is a short distance for the cuttings to "fall" before it reaches the "bottom" of the hole.
The weight of the drill string will generally be proportional to the friction forces and moments of friction that occur between the drill string and the hole wall. In long holes with a large deviation angle, these forces and moments will be significant, and will determine how far it can be drilled before the friction becomes too great.
Formålet med den foreliggende oppfinnelse er å komme frem til et borerør som muliggjør en minskning av friksjons-kreftene og friksjonsmomentene, samtidig med at trykktapene og operasjons/håndteringsbetingelsene er innenfor akseptable The purpose of the present invention is to arrive at a drill pipe which enables a reduction of the frictional forces and the frictional moments, at the same time that the pressure losses and operating/handling conditions are within acceptable
grenser, og som medfører minsket heft mot veggen i bore-"'. hullet. limits, and which results in reduced adherence to the wall in the borehole.
According to the invention, this has been achieved with a drill pipe as stated in the subsequent patent claims.
The pipe itself can e.g. produced by being pulled around a forming tool that has the desired pitch and geometry. Another alternative is to use a "roll forming" tool.
Due to the helical shape, the pipe itself will have a small contact surface against the wall in the borehole, so that the friction and adhesion against the wall in the borehole will be small compared to the use of pipes which are basically straight.
The invention will be explained in the following, with the help of an embodiment shown in the attached drawing.
Gjennom hvert The drawing shows a drill pipe according to the invention, which drill pipe comprises a helical pipe 1 and two heads 2 and 3, one at each end of the pipe 1. Through each
hode er en åpning som kommuniserer med røret 1. head is an opening that communicates with pipe 1.
The joining between the pipe 1 and the heads 2 and 3 can be carried out in any suitable way, e.g. when using a threaded connection or welding.
Both the tube 1 and the heads 2 and 3 can be made of aluminium, but also other materials, e.g. steel, can be used.
There is no requirement that the pipe 1 has a helical shape throughout its length. In view of the joining with the heads 2 and 3, it is, on the contrary, expedient that the pipe 1 has a straight section at each end which is parallel to the main axis of the pipe, as shown in the drawing.
