Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører en veikulvert omfattende minst to plastrør for anbringelse i på tvers av en veibane. The present invention relates to a road culvert comprising at least two plastic pipes for placement across a roadway.
Plastic road culvert pipes are light in weight and will not transfer stresses even against a soft mounting surface. The pipes do not require special foundations or the use of insulating or protective outer layers, and the trench can be refilled with excavated soil. Another advantage of such plastic pipes is that waste does not adhere to the smooth inner wall.
In connection with floods, it can sometimes happen that water penetrates into the ground around the culvert in such quantities that a transverse flow of water occurs along the outer wall of the pipe. Such a transverse flow of water will carry soil from the side of the pipe. It has been shown that light plastic pipes with a smooth outer wall can easily be displaced in their longitudinal direction together with the transverse water flow because the frictional grip force from the soil layers is reduced. Such displacement can result in the culvert being destroyed in its entirety. The transverse flow of water will mainly carry away light soil material while the stones are left behind, and the pipe substrate will therefore become uneven. The plastic pipe will thereby be exposed to point loads which can cause the pipe to compress.
Transverse water flows can be prevented and the pipe can be anchored in the ground if it is connected with a cross-positioned closing plate as is known, for example, from US patent 2 439 488. In addition to preventing transverse water flows along the outer wall of the pipe, the closing plate will prevent the pipe from shifting in its longitudinal direction and it is compressed due to point loads. Even if transverse water currents occur for some reason, the pipe will be held in position by closing plates, as these penetrate into the surrounding ground.
To limit the construction height, road culverts are often equipped with two or more pipes arranged side by side, instead of one pipe with a large diameter. The pipes can be loose, but are usually connected to each other
gjennom forankringsanordninger.through anchoring devices.
The purpose of the present invention is to produce a road culvert comprising at least two pipes where transverse water flows are prevented and where the pipes are attached to each other in a very simple way. The invention is characterized by the fact that the pipes are enclosed by at least one common closing plate which is arranged at right angles to the central axes of the pipes. By equipping the pipes with common shut-off plates, transverse water flows will be prevented, and the pipes will also be connected to each other. The closing plate, which is provided with openings for at least two pipes, thus serves two purposes, namely to prevent transverse water flows and to connect the pipes to each other.
The invention is described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig. 1 shows a road culvert comprising three pipes which are placed side by side. Fig. 2 shows a road culvert comprising three pipes arranged in a triangular shape. It will often be advantageous for a road culvert to be assembled from a number of pipes, using closing plates to fasten the pipes to each other, so that they form a culvert element. Fig. 1 shows a culvert element comprising three pipes 1 which are arranged side by side and connected in pairs to each other by means of closing plates 4, 5, 6 and 7. The closing plates are in this case rectangular and provided with two openings for a pair of pipes . As both closing plates at the same end are pushed into the middle pipe, all three pipes will be able to be joined together to form a culvert element.
The three pipes can be placed in a triangular shape by turning one of the transverse pipes into position on top of the other two pipes and attaching them to the other transverse pipes using the closing plates.
As can be seen from the drawing, the closing plates 4, 5, 6 and 7 are mounted at a short distance from each end of the pipes. Depending on the situation, the shut-off plates can be located at any point along the pipes. The best effect will usually be achieved if the plates are placed at some distance from the pipe ends or at the pipe ends. In consideration of the function of the closing plates, it is also of significant importance that the transverse outer surfaces of the plates are of sufficient size. A suitable surface size will mainly depend on the type of soil. After being pushed into the pipes, the closing plate can either be welded to the pipe outer wall or left loose to be held in position by friction.
Fig. 2 shows a triangular road culvert element where the uppermost pipe serves as an overflow pipe for flood water. The closing plates 8, 9 and 10 are in this case triangular and provided with three openings for the pipes 1. In order to improve the operation of the closing plates, an additional closing plate 9 is mounted in the middle part of the pipes. Furthermore, a larger number of closing plates can be mounted along the pipes than as shown by the described embodiment. The number of pipes in the road culvert can also be increased as desired at a later stage, by connecting pipes to each other by means of closing plates.
The closing plates are preferably made of the same plastic material as the pipes and will then be able to be hot-air welded to the pipes. Instead of joining as shown in fig. 1, mutually adjacent pipes can be connected to each other by means of closing plates which extend along the entire row of pipes. In certain cases, it may be advisable that only a single closing plate is used, which is, for example, placed in the middle of the pipes.
