Description
The invention relates to a joining of two lines, a method for and application of such a joining, as well as a mooring system for floating constructions, preferably for fish farms and the like.
Floating constructions must be held in a given position, and are usually moored with lines that run from the construction to the seabed and/or to land in cases where the construction is sufficiently close to land. The lines are anchored on the seabed and/or on land in an appropriate manner in accordance with known techniques. Different conditions such as wind and current will affect the construction, and large forces in different directions will be applied to the lines that hold the construction in place. It is therefore very important that not only the lines, but also the joining of the lines are sufficiently strong to withstand such forces over time. Failure of the mooring system can result in failure of the cages, with consequent environmental consequences and material and financial loss for the operator and/or owner of the facility.
In what follows, the invention is described in relation to fish farming facilities in the sea, but it can also be used in fresh water and/or for mooring floating jetties, offshore structures and other floating structures. A breeding facility comprises one or more cages, bird nets and equipment for holding bird nets, as well as a mooring system for the cages. In addition, a breeding facility may include one or more fleets. The term "breeding facility" is known to a person skilled in the art, and is therefore not further defined here.
A traditional mooring system for fish farms comprises a submerged frame of lines surrounding one or more cages, anchor lines from the frame to anchoring in the seabed or land, lines from the frame to floating bodies, and lines from the frame to the cage itself. The various lines are fastened together at a junction, and so-called coupling plates are often used, such as metal plates with through holes, where the ropes are attached with the help of shackles and shackles. Traditionally, metal components are used, preferably steel, and the weight of such components must be compensated for in the carrying capacity of the buoyancy collar.
In the present application, rope means any rope or fiber strap, with sufficient strength that is suitable for the purpose, both twisted and braided, and regardless of the number of cord parts. The lines can either be made of synthetic or natural fibres, such as hemp, manila, nylon or polypropylene.
The junction points between the various lines are essential to maintain the stability of the facility, and must be designed to transfer and withstand forces from all the lines, both downwards from the anchor line(s), horizontal from the frame and the lines that go to the cage itself, as well upward-directed from the lines that go to the cage, and to the floating element. It is not unusual for 16 lines extending in different directions to be connected together at such a junction. Known solutions at the junctions include, as mentioned, a metal plate which causes wear on the lines over time, and the system must be inspected regularly and worn elements must be replaced if necessary. During inspection, the mooring system must be raised to the surface, which is both a heavy and extensive job, but it is also a dangerous job when such components are raised and lowered.
For å opprettholde tilstrekkelig bruddstyrke må tauet overdimensjoneres. It is known to use ropes as an alternative to steel in parts of a mooring system, the ropes being tied together in knots. In knots that are usually used, the rope will be bent at sharp angles through the knot, and the breaking strength is reduced. To maintain sufficient breaking strength, the rope must be oversized.
In Norwegian patent application 20120444, a hub is described in a mooring system for a farming facility as described above, with the connection plate and associated shackles and cages being replaced with a number of round slings. However, there is a problem when parts of the mooring system have to be replaced, as the round loops have to be cut off when the knot is to be opened. When using a knife or similar tool, there is a great danger that the underlying rope will also be damaged when the round sling is cut.
In GB1443830 A, a way is described to connect two lines so that a knotless net is formed, but the nodes between the lines are not locked to each other and can come loose. Bendsling is a commonly known technique for securing a knot, and is described in Gerald L. Findley, Seizing, Rope Works, 1999, Pages 17-20.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a mooring system without the above mentioned problems. Furthermore, it is an aim to provide a mooring system with improved service life, and where parts can be replaced in a simple and appropriate way without the entire system having to be raised and possibly replaced. There is another purpose for the mooring system to be in operation even if maintenance and/or replacement of individual components of the system is carried out.
Oppfinnelsen The invention
The purpose is achieved with a joining of two lines, a method for, and application of such a joining as well as a mooring system, in accordance with the characterizing part of the independent patent claims. Further advantageous features are provided in the associated, independent claims.
In accordance with the present invention, no external element is used to join the various lines at a junction, but the lines are attached directly to each other. In this way, a safe joining is achieved without external elements or materials that can lead to wear and tear on the mooring system, and without additional weight. A joining in accordance with the present invention is therefore significantly easier than known solutions, for example in connection with a junction in the mooring system of a fish farm. In cases where it is appropriate, several lines can be attached together over a larger area, rather than forming fixed connection points.
Endene strekkes ut slik at sammenføyningen strammes. The joining is achieved by creating a through hole in each of the lines to be joined, perpendicular to the line's longitudinal direction. The hole must be formed between the fibers in the line, so that the line maintains full strength, as none of the fibers are broken, weakened and/or damaged. Then one end of the first line is passed through the hole in the second line, and one end of the second line through the hole in the first line. The ends are stretched out so that the joint is tightened. In various embodiments, the lines can be extended so that they either extend approximately parallel or at an angle to each other, or one or both of the lines can be angled so that the ends of one line extend in different directions. In preferred embodiments of the invention in connection with a node in a mooring system, both lines are angled.
In this way, a joint is achieved where each of the lines passes through the other. When there is tension on the ends of the lines, this joint is self-locking, and will not be able to be loosened nor moved relative to one of the lines. As an additional security, the joint must be locked so that it cannot come loose even if one or more of the ends of the lines are free. This can be done in several ways, which will be obvious to a professional.
In accordance with the present invention, the joint is secured with a safety line, the safety line being passed through a through hole which runs transversely through the joint, in the same plane as the ends of the lines. The hole must be formed between the fibers in the ropes so that the ropes maintain full strength. The safety line should preferably be attached to itself, it can for example be a rope shackle. In an alternative embodiment, a second safety line is also used to secure the joint, in that the second safety line is also passed transversely through a through hole in the joint, preferably roughly perpendicular to the first safety line, and in the same plane as the lines that are joined together.
By "same plan" it is meant here that the safety line must be led through the joint in such a way that the hole for the safety line goes through both lines in the joint. If the safety line is passed through the joint in a plane that is perpendicular to the plane of the ends of the first and second lines, the safety line may get a path between the first and second lines, and thus not help to lock the joint.
In the present application, "rope shackle" means a rope with a loop at one end and a knot at the other, for example a "Dyneema shackle". The knot is fed into the loop, and will lock the shackle when in use. This will be obvious to a specialist, and is therefore not described further here.
As additional security and reinforcement, the entire joint can be bent, with a bend loop placed around the joint and adjacent parts of the lines. In this way, the lines will not move in relation to each other, even if several ends are freed.
With a joining in accordance with the present invention, for example, the lines that form the frame around a breeding facility can be attached to each other at intersections, and the ends of the lines can, for example, be used as anchor ropes. The lines to the floating body and to the cage itself are attached to the joint, for example, such lines can be attached using rope shackles, round slings or the like that are placed around the joint. In this way, a mooring is achieved without the use of metal or other materials that often cause wear and tear on the mooring.
The lines used in accordance with the present invention can be any rope that is suitable for use when mooring aquaculture facilities, which will be obvious to a person skilled in the art. However, it is preferred to use rope where the cord parts are braided rather than twisted, to avoid the through hole in the rope slipping out and causing movement in the joint between the ropes.
In the following, the invention will be described with reference to a mooring system for fish farms where rope is used, but the joining of two lines/ropes can of course also be used in other contexts, which will be obvious to a professional.
Eksempler Examples
The invention will be described in the following with reference to the attached figures, where two braided ropes are attached to each other for use in mooring a fish farm, as
figur 1 viser tauene som skal føyes sammen, figure 1 shows the ropes to be joined,
figur 2 viser tauene idet de føres gjennom det gjennomgående hullet i motstående tau, figure 2 shows the ropes as they are passed through the through hole in the opposite rope,
figur 3 viser sammenføyningen etter gjennomføringen, og Figure 3 shows the joining after completion, and
figur 4 viser sammenføyningen etter bendsling. Figure 4 shows the joint after bending.
Figure 1 shows a first rope 1, with a free end 2, and a second rope 3 with a free end 4, after a through hole 5, 6 has been arranged through the ropes. The hole 5,6 is arranged so that the fibers are bent to the side, as there are no breaks in any of the fibers in the longitudinal direction of the rope. In this way, the rope 1.3 is as strong as before the through hole 5.6 was arranged.
Figure 2 shows how the ropes are connected, as a free end 2 of the first rope 1 is passed through the hole 6 in the second rope 3, and a free end 4 of the second rope 3 is passed through the hole 5 in the first rope 1.
In Figure 3, the joining of the first rope 1 and the second rope 2 is shown after the free end 2,4 of each rope 1,3 has been passed through the hole 5,6 of the opposite rope, and tightened. In the embodiment shown, the first rope enters and exits the joint on the same side as the second rope, approximately perpendicular to itself. The same applies to the second rope, and the ropes will thus form an X-shape, where the joint is in the middle. It is a preferred solution that both ends of the first rope are on the same side of the second rope, but the angle between the end entering and the end exiting the joint may vary, which will be obvious to a person skilled in the art.
In figure 3, it is also shown with dotted lines how a through hole for a possible security line can pass through the joint. A safety line can preferably be a rope shackle that locks in itself.
In Figure 4, the joint shown in Figure 3 is shown with a bend loop 7. The entire joint and adjacent ends of the ropes are bent with a thin rope, synthetic or of natural fibre, to further secure the joining of the ropes. The bend sling can be in addition to, or instead of, a safety line.
In a mooring system for a fish farm, the frame in the mooring can be made with lines that are joined to each other, with a joining in accordance with the present invention. The ends of the lines can, for example, be used for anchor lines. The other lines in a mooring system, the lines from the frame to the cage itself, and to the floating body can preferably be attached in or above the joint, for example with a rope shackle, round sling or the like.
The example above, where the invention is described with reference to use in a mooring system in a fish farm, is given to illustrate the invention and should not be used to interpret the invention restrictively, in relation to how it is defined in the attached claims.
