Description
The invention relates to a device for an ammunition magazine as stated in the introduction to patent claim 1.
Bakgrunn Background
An important assessment criterion for an armament for an armored vehicle, e.g. an armour, is the amount of ammunition that is available at the weapon without external supply. This amount of ammunition is limited by the installation space available for an ammunition magazine, which is determined by other conditions, e.g. the geometric contour of the vehicle when transported by rail. The load target for rail is a tire curve that the vehicle's geometry must lie within, in order to be approved for rail transport.
On the other hand, an ammunition container is a volume that must be protected against shelling, so that the amount of ammunition, which determines the volume of the container, mostly has a significant influence on the weight of the total vehicle, provided that the ammunition is located in or on a toe house and thus above carry vehicle roof. The entry of ammunition into the toe volume does indeed reduce the volume to be ballistically protected, but has an influence on the cargo space available in the vehicle. In addition, this solution mostly leads to a risk for the crew through possibly exploding ammunition and/or an impact due to the gases entering the crew compartment. This generally leads to the requirement that the greatest possible amount of ammunition must be placed above the vehicle roof with at the same time a minimal tower contour, which constitutes a contradiction or creates conflicting requirements.
Various proposals are known for the design of ammunition magazines and additional magazines.
From German publication document 19927656, an armored transport vehicle is known, which is equipped with a manned gun turret, including low water and carrying machine guns, which is remotely operated by the crew from the interior of the vehicle. The ammunition magazines are arranged on the left and right side in relation to the machine gun in the tower.
The known ammunition magazines conventionally have mutually partially separated chambers. However, they are always designed as a unit, which cannot be changed and split up by the user. The disadvantage of the known solutions lies above all in that the geometric limits of the load target for rail transport with conventionally undivided magazines determine the maximum possible amount of ammunition, if the magazines are located outside the tower and cannot be completely removed during rail transport of the vehicle. In that case, the ballistic protection must be carried out with weighting armor steel or adaptive protection modules for the entire magazine unit, as the weight of the magazine depends directly on the amount of ammunition to be taken and thus on the dimensions of the magazine.
The main purpose of the invention is to provide a larger ammunition magazine for a larger amount of ammunition, while retaining or even reducing the usual building volume or the volume to be ballistically protected on the vehicle.
Oppfinnelsen The invention
This task is, in accordance with the invention, solved with the help of the features in the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Further details of the invention appear from the subclaims.
In accordance with the invention, the ammunition magazine is designed as a container with at least two separate individual containers. On one of the containers, the main magazine, from which ammunition is fed to the weapon, an additional magazine can be flanged. From the additional magazine, the ammunition can be delivered to the main magazine.
The principle of the invention is a magazine, which is divided into a main magazine and one or more additional magazines. The ammunition is fed to the weapon from the main magazine. The main magazine is refilled with ammunition from the additional magazine through a transfer station. The additional magazine's mounting location on the main magazine can be in various suitable locations, depending on the requirements that are placed on the vehicle. The transfer of ammunition from the additional magazine to the main magazine can either take place shot by shot automatically or controlled by an operating command. As the weapon is fed from the main magazine, the ballistic protection of the additional magazine can in some cases be reduced or even eliminated.
7). The connection between the main and additional magazine can be made in three ways: the additional magazine can be flanged onto the main magazine as an independent unit if necessary (fig. 7).
9). Denne varianten dekkes ikke av patentkravene. The additional magazine is not connected to the main magazine. For the transfer of ammunition, the main magazine is placed in a specific pivot position in height and/or laterally as an index position. The additional magazine can also be set below in a refill and index position (fig. 9). This variant is not covered by the patent requirements.
The main and additional magazine can be inextricably connected to each other (fig. 8). The advantage of this solution compared to conventional undivided magazines is only a possible weight reduction. The advantage of not using removable additional magazines is not achieved here.
The main advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the additional magazine can be fitted when needed and in relation to a use case. Thus, the amount of ammunition found on the vehicle is independent of restrictions, e.g. from the transport conditions or the loading destination for rail transport. It is also possible to leave the additional magazine ballistically unprotected in relation to the main magazine, as the amount of ammunition in the main magazine is only reduced after the additional magazine is completely emptied, so that there will always be ammunition available to the weapon without an additional magazine. Therefore, a reduced protection for the additional magazine is acceptable and weight can be saved on this.
A further advantage is the possibility that, by renouncing the additional magazine, the rotation space can be reduced when turning the tower. In this way, extra cargo space is made available on the vehicle roof, in order to be able to place temporarily transported objects, while retaining the ability to turn the weapon.

Fig. 2-5 show different variants of the arrangement of main and additional magazines. The main magazine 3 is in each case arranged in the same position in relation to the weapon. The additional magazine 4 can be arranged externally on the side of the main magazine (fig. 2), behind the main magazine (fig. 3), in front of the main magazine (fig. 4) or above the main magazine (fig. 5) with a corresponding transfer station between the main and additional magazine. Fig. 6 shows a main magazine 3 with high ballistic protection and an additional magazine 4 with reduced ballistic protection. Fig. 7 shows an additional magazine 4, which can be flanged onto a main magazine 3 as an independent unit as required in the direction 8.

Fig. 9 shows a main magazine 10 and an additional magazine 11, which is designed as a disconnected device. The main magazine 10 is placed for refilling ammunition on the additional magazine 11 in an index position and the additional magazine becomes e.g. after the supply of ammunition swung away again.
A weapon equipped in this way can only be operated with the main magazine 3. If necessary, the additional magazine 4 is flanged onto the main magazine 3 and the weapon has expanded the amount of ammunition available when firing shots. When firing, the additional magazine can be emptied first and then the main magazine. Thus, the weapon always has access to ammunition, even when an additional magazine is not attached or is damaged. From this it can in some cases be concluded that an additional magazine does not need any strong armouring, which means extra weight, in the same way as the main magazine does. The additional magazine can also be arranged disconnected, so that it is set in a certain index position in relation to the main magazine for ammunition transfer to the main magazine and is then returned to a transport position.
