Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing reinforcing bars of composite material.
The reinforcing bar according to the invention can be formed in a forming process by profile drawing, bar pressing or casting, or a combination of these, of continuous fiber and matrix (resin) in a process with a single process line or in combination with a process in another line. In the forming process, the rod is made with at least 50% by weight of reinforcing fiber and a matrix that is impregnated in the fibers with a bath, by spray injection or pressure.
Composite rods of the above type are used for strengthening and bracing various products and constructions that are made of such materials as metal, concrete, wood, plastic, stone, ceramics and combinations of these where sufficient binding force is required between the rods and the material to achieve structural functionality and optimization of slimness, weight, size and price. But this is often achieved at the expense of strength, stiffness or the risk of oxidation, for example of steel and other metals which cause corrosion problems, discoloration and thus loss of structural strength. Occasionally, when metals are used to strengthen or stiffen the products, problems arise with elongation or variations in the material's physical behavior leading to cracking or insufficient bonding between the product's material and the reinforcing elements, i.e. the reinforcing bars.
The reinforcement material according to the present invention is a continuous fiber and matrix composite which is often called FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) and which is used in a number of different building materials due to excellent and flexible physical material properties such as high specific strength, low weight, no or low electrical conductivity, non-magnetic properties, high resistance to acid and chlorides or aggressive environment, as well as malleability and shaping. As mentioned, steel and metals are generally susceptible to oxidation which leads to corrosion of and rust on ferrous metals due to hydroxides of iron and oxides from atmospheric oxygen in the presence of water. As long as the pH is kept strongly alkaline (pH 12-14) in combination with very good cast concrete quality, the steel remains passive against corrosion. Low pH, low concrete quality, insufficient product quality, poor execution of the work or contact with strong acid can cause the concrete zone around the reinforcing comb steel to become permeable to e.g. chlorine ions from salt-polluted aggregates, road salt, marine environment, seawater, carbonation, C02, oxygen and moisture. In addition, conditions that can lead to chemical deterioration of the concrete, e.g. in the case of sulphate or acid attack, or mechanical deterioration of the concrete by freezing and thawing in a wet or damp state, lead to rust and corrosion of the steel in the reinforcement, cracking in the concrete and loss of structural strength. When the reinforcement begins to corrode (rust), the iron oxide will expand and give rise to internal stresses that cause cracks to appear in the concrete. The concrete will fall off, the steel in the reinforcing bars will be exposed to the atmosphere and the environment that led to the corrosion process, the speed of the process will increase further, the structure will lose strength and in the worst case may collapse.
Control of these parameters is difficult and this leads to significant economic and structural problems for concrete buildings worldwide. The lack of other alternative reinforcement materials has often led to the misuse of steel reinforcement bars in concrete structures.
As mentioned above, reinforcing bars made of composite material are known from before and are used to a certain, limited extent. However, such known rods are hampered by a significant disadvantage, namely that the bond between the product's material (concrete) and the reinforcing rod (FRP rod) varies throughout the length of the rod. The fact that traditional rods are designed with a circular cross-section also makes it difficult to give the surface the necessary roughness. 1 the applicant's own WO 03/050364 describes a reinforcing composite rod where the rod is of a rectangular or preferably square shape with rounded corners, and where the rod during the production process is provided with a surface pattern with many depressions, depressions or hollows formed in a texture.
With the present invention, a reinforcing bar made of composite material with excellent binding force properties has been produced and the necessary surface roughness has been produced in a simple and inexpensive way.
The invention is characterized in that the surface of the reinforcing bar, after it has been hardened or largely hardened, is supplied with or coated with a resin or glue in such a way that a pattern in the form of many protrusions is produced or embossed in the glue on the surface of the bar by by means of a tool with furrows or depressions corresponding to the desired shape of the protrusions, and which is pressed against the surface of the rod until the adhesive is hardened or substantially hardened, as defined in the accompanying independent patent claims 1 and 5.
The dependent patent claims 2-5 and 7-9 define preferred embodiments of the invention.

As mentioned, the present invention relates to a method for the production of reinforcing bars 8 of composite material, which are particularly intended to be used to reinforce and reinforce concrete. The reinforcing bar 8, which is preferably of a rectangular or square shape, can be formed in a forming process by profile drawing, bar pressing or casting, or a combination of these, of continuous fiber and matrix (resin) in a process with a single process line or in combination with a process in another line, as shown in fig. 1, where the rod is made of fiber 2, which is pulled through a unit 1 where the matrix material is applied, and further through a shaping and heating unit 3 and unit 4, which has heating means (not further shown in the figure) where the rod 8 is shaped, hardened or partly hardened. The bar is preferably made in the molding process on a continuous basis with at least 50% by weight of reinforcing fiber and with a matrix (resin mixture) which is impregnated into the fibers with a bath, by spray injection or pressure. The temperature inside unit 3 should be between 90 and 250 <&>C, while it should be between 120 and 250 <S>C inside unit 4.
The surface of the reinforcing bar 8 is, after it has been hardened or largely hardened, provided with or coated with a resin or glue so that a pattern in the form of many protrusions in the glue is produced or embossed on the surface of the bar 8 using a tool 5 , as shown in fig. 2, with furrows or recesses 6 corresponding to the desired shape of the protrusions. It is of crucial importance that the tool 5 is pressed against the surface of the reinforcing bar until the glue is hardened or largely hardened.
The tool shown in fig. 2 can be on continuous bands 9, in an embossing and heating unit 4 (see Fig. 1) on either side of the reinforcing bar being made, so that the reinforcing bar is drawn between the bands 9 and the tools 5 are pressed against the surface of the bar 8 using the bands.
3 a, b og fig. For å redusere klebing eller unngå at verktøyet kleber seg til overflaten av armeringsstangen etter at limet er herdet, kan overflaten av verktøyet forsynes med et ikke-klebende overtrekk som for eksempel Teflon<®.>Preferably, the tools 5 when located on continuous belts 9 can be in the form of individual segments 7, as shown in fig. 3 a, b and fig. 4 and fig. 5, made of aluminum or other metals, special high temperature resistant polymer materials or ceramic materials. As mentioned above, the tools 5 are pressed against the surface of the rod until the glue or resin has hardened, and the tool is then removed or pulled out from the rod. To reduce sticking or prevent the tool from sticking to the surface of the rebar after the adhesive has cured, the surface of the tool can be provided with a non-stick coating such as Teflon<®.>
As shown in fig. 3, the segments 7 can be made in the form of angular elements with the necessary or desired patterns on each of the arms 10, 11 of the element. The two elements 7 can both be present on diametrically positioned bands 9, so that the elements are forced against the surface of the reinforcing bar 8 when they are to create the pattern on the reinforcing bar.
An alternative could be to have the glue on the surface of the tool 5 from the beginning, so that the glue is transferred to the surface of the reinforcing bar 8 and the pattern is formed in one operation by pressing the tool against the reinforcing bar.
However, it must be emphasized that the pattern formed on a reinforcing bar as described above, by first having a resin on the surface and then forming the pattern with a press tool against the surface of the bar, is only an alternative. The pattern can just as easily be formed during the final shaping of the bar itself, without using extra resin, for example by pressing a tool against the surface while the bar is being hardened, for example in a common hardening and embossing unit 3,4.
Fig. 5 shows a three-dimensional sketch of an alternative design of rods with a rectangular, flat shape, where alternative segments are used in the form of flat elements which are only pressed against the upper and lower surfaces of the rod (only from two sides).
