Description
Komprimeringsanordning Compression device
This invention relates to a compression device, a return machine comprising such a compression device, use of such a compression device, and a method for pre-compressing objects.
WO 03051620 A1 shows a machine for compacting large solid materials (for example glass bottles, plastic and/or metal bottles and containers), where the compaction is carried out by a press which is equipped with two crushing or clamping heads and can move in alternating linear movement from a rest position to two crushing/squeezing positions. The machine's crushing chamber, which houses the machine's drive devices, houses a motor, the press activated by the motor can be moved in alternating linear motion, and two opposing surfaces against which the massive waste products are pressed. The motor consists of an electric motor-reducer which is connected to the press with a gear drive. The output shaft of the electric motor has two sprockets each of which is connected to a rack anchored to and integrated with the crushers which can thus be moved. The inversion of the motor shaft's rotational movement thus determines the inversion of the crushers' sliding direction.
It is an aim of the invention to produce an improved compression device. The invention is defined in the attached independent claims. Embodiments are set forth in the dependent claims.

Figures 1 and 2 show a compression device 10 according to embodiments of the invention.
The compression device 10 comprises a first compression plate 12, and a second compression plate 14 which is arranged mainly opposite the first compression plate 12.
The compression device 10 further comprises a piston 16. The piston is arranged between the first and second compression plates 12,14. The piston 16 has a first surface 18 which faces the first compression plate 12, and a second surface 20 which faces the second compression plate 14.
The compression device 10 further comprises a drive mechanism 22, which is also shown in figure 3. The drive mechanism 22 is mainly adapted to alternately move the piston horizontally a) towards the first compression plate 12 so that an object can be compressed or flattened between the first compression plate 12 and the piston's first surface 18, and b) against the second compression plate 14 so that another object can be compressed or flattened between the second compression plate 14 and the second surface 20 of the piston.
The drive mechanism 22 (whole) is placed inside the piston 16. By placing the drive mechanism 22 inside the piston 16, the drive mechanism 22 is well protected against dirt, rubbish and the like that may occur in the device 10. By placing the drive mechanism 22 inside the piston 16, the device 10 also be compact or small in size, which saves space.
In a presently preferred embodiment, the drive mechanism 22 comprises a motor 24 and means adapted to transfer rotation of the motor to reciprocating linear movement of the piston 16. The means comprise a rotating shaft 82 driven by the motor 24, two road heaters 84 connected to the rotating the shaft 82, and two rods 26. Each rod 26 is connected between a respective crank arm 84 and the inside of the piston 16 as shown in Figures 1 and 3. The drive mechanism further comprises a gearbox 28 which is connected between the motor and the rotating shaft 82. It will be understood that the piston, when the shaft 82 is rotated by the motor 24 and the piston is in operation, will move back and forth as the double arrow in figure 1 illustrates. It will also be understood that it will not be necessary to change the direction of operation of the motor 24 in order to achieve the reciprocating movement of the piston 16.
The compression device 10 further comprises a frame 30 arranged to guide the piston 16 in a linear path between the first and second compression plates 12,14. The frame has a lower slide plate 32 adapted to support the piston 16, for low friction movement and minimal wear. The outside of the piston 16 can also be covered with a plastic material to reduce friction and wear. The gearbox 28 of the drive mechanism 22 is attached to the plate 32 via an enlarged opening 48 in the bottom of the piston. The opening 48 is widened in the sense that it is large enough not to obstruct the movement of the piston 16. The piston 16 can also have a corresponding upper opening 49 via which the gearbox 28 can be attached to the frame 30, as shown in Figure 3.
The compression device 10 further comprises a first object-holding grid 34 placed at an end 36 of the lower sliding plate 32 against the first compression plate 12. The first object-holding grid 34 is more specifically rotatably attached to the frame 30 so that it can rotate about an axis 86 the grid 34 is mainly adapted to hold an uncompressed object in a first compression chamber 38 between the first compression plate 12 and the first face 18 of the piston 16, see figure 1.1 this upper position of the first object holding grid 34 is the opening between the grid 34 and the compression plate 12 sufficiently wide that a compressed object can fall through it, but narrow enough that incoming non-compressed objects do not fall through it and are instead caught by the object-holding grid 34. An elastic member 88, such as a spring or rubber band, is attached between the frame 30 and a lever 90 on the first object holder the grid 34 (see figure 4) to turn and bias the grid 34 towards the upper position. The first grid 34 can then be pushed by the piston 16 to a lower position (see figures 2 and 4) as the piston 16 moves towards the first compression plate 12. The lever 90 can also be used to manually rotate the first object-holding grid 34 to the lower position (or in the opposite direction compared to the elastic element 88) to (temporarily) remove the first object holding grid 34 from the chamber 38. This can be useful if, for example, a non-compressible object is introduced into the compression chamber 38.
The compression device 10 further comprises a second object-holding grid 40 positioned in the same way as the first object-holding grid 34, but at the opposite end 42 of the lower sliding plate 32 towards the second compression plate 14.
En fremgangsmåte for å komprimere gjenstander ved hjelp av A method of compressing objects using
komprimeringsanordningen 10 omfatter å aktivere drivmekanismen 22 for alternerende å a) komprimere en gjenstand mellom den første kompresjonsplaten 12 og stempelets 16 første flate 18, og b) komprimere en annen gjenstand mellom den andre kompresjonsplaten 14 og stempelets 16 andre flate 20. the compression device 10 comprises activating the drive mechanism 22 to alternately a) compress an object between the first compression plate 12 and the first surface 18 of the piston 16, and b) compress another object between the second compression plate 14 and the second surface 20 of the piston 16.
More specifically, the piston 16 can first be moved to the left in Figure 1, towards the second compression plate 14 to thereby expose or open the first compression chamber 38. A first object (not shown) falls into the first compression chamber 38 from above, as indicated by arrow 82a . The first object is held in the first compression chamber 38 by means of the first object-holding grid 34. The piston 16 is then moved to the right towards the first compression plate 12, whereby the first object is compressed or flattened between the first compression plate 12 and the first surface 18 of the piston 16. the piston 16 is moved towards the first compression plate 12 and thus away from the second compression plate 14, the second compression chamber 44 is exposed so that a second object can fall into the second compression chamber 44 from above, as indicated by arrow 82b in Figure 2. The piston 16 is then moved again against the second compression plate 14, whereby the second object can be compressed or flattened between the second compression plate 14 and the second surface 20 of the piston 16. As the piston 16 begins to move towards the second compression plate 14, the first compression plate 12 and the first piston surface 18 lose their grip on the first item that saw fa exits the first compression chamber 38 in an opening between the first compression plate 12 and the first object holding grid 34 as indicated by arrow 82c. As soon as the first compression chamber 38 is re-exposed, a third (not shown) object can fall into the first compression chamber 38. The flattened second object will fall out of the second compression chamber 44 when the piston 16 starts moving again towards the first compression plate 12 as indicated by arrow 82d. The above procedure can then be repeated to compress additional items.
At least one of the first compression plate 12, the second compression plate 14, the first surface 18 of the piston 16 and the second surface 20 of the piston may comprise or be arranged to receive an exchangeable insert. This makes the compression device 10 very flexible in terms of handling different types of objects depending on the actual need. Examples of replaceable inserts will be described in what follows.
Figure 5 shows a plastic bottle insert 50, which as an example constitutes the first compression plate 12 in Figure 1. The plastic bottle insert 50 is specially adapted to compress and puncture objects such as plastic bottles. The plastic bottle insert 50 has a back plate 52 with a plurality of spikes 54 which here point towards the first surface 18 of the piston 16 opposite the plastic bottle insert 50. The plastic bottle insert 50 also has a front plate 56 with openings 58 that match the spikes 54. The front plate 56 is preloaded by a spring mechanism 60 against a first position where the spikes 54 do not project through the opening 58, but the front plate 56 can be pushed back by an object to be compressed (which is again pushed by the piston 16) against the spring mechanism 60 to a second position where the spikes 54 project through the opening 58 and thus penetrate the object. The spring mechanism 60 may include, for example, disc springs. Retaining bolts 57 guide the face plate 56 and prevent the spring mechanism 60 from pushing the face plate 56 off the studs 54. Each stud 54 can also be mounted by means of a support ring 59 which is made of a flexible material to allow limited lateral movement of the studs 54, preventing the spikes 54 in locking when in use. A plastic plate 61 can also be attached to the first surface 18 of the piston 16. In use, the spikes 54 penetrate this plastic plate 61 when the piston 16 is fully extended. This ensures that the object (ie the plastic bottle) is completely punctured.
Then, as the piston 16 is withdrawn, the spring mechanism 60 forces the front plate 56 towards the first position, whereby the compressed object is pushed by the spikes 54 of the front plate 56. Figure 6 shows a glass breaker insert 62. The glass breaker insert 62 is specially adapted for crushing objects such as glass bottles. The glass breaker insert 62 has a front plate 64 with a plurality of elongated and vertical rails 66 facing the second face 20 of the piston 16 opposite the glass breaker insert 62. The glass breaker insert 62 optionally has a back plate 68 with dampers and/or springs 70 between the front plate 64 and the back plate 68 to allow a specific limited movement of the front plate 64 relative to the back plate 68. Figure 7 shows a box press insert 72 which, as an example, constitutes the second compression plate 14 in Figure 1. The box press insert 72 is specially adapted to flatten aluminum and steel cans. The box press insert 72 has a front plate 74 with a substantially smooth or even surface 76 facing the second surface 20 of the piston 16 opposite the box press insert 72. The box press insert 72 optionally has a back plate 78 with dampers and/or springs 80 between the front plate 74 and the back plate 78 to allow a specific limited movement of the front plate 74 relative to the back plate 78. The face plate 74 surface 76 may be provided with a pattern (not shown) adapted to apply a mark to the compressed object, so that it can be identified what kind (type) of compression device has compressed the object. The compression device 10 can, for example, be used to compress returnable items, for example cans, bottles or other containers, in a return machine. The compression device 10 can be used both in a solution with a rear compartment and in a stand-alone return machine (which includes container reception, compression and storage). The compression device 10 can also be retrofitted into existing return machines. The person skilled in the art will understand that this invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described above. On the contrary, many modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the attached requirements. The compression device may, for example, include only one compression chamber. The drive mechanism may also include a linear actuator, wherein the compression device further comprises a control unit adapted to alternately actuate the linear actuator in opposite directions to impart reciprocating linear motion to the piston. The linear actuator can, for example, be a hydraulic actuator. The compression device can also comprise a machine which is designed to rotate the object-holding grid in the opposite direction to the spring and thereby remove the object-holding grid from the compression chamber. Here, the compression device can further comprise a sensor adapted to detect whether the drive mechanism has stopped unintentionally and to give a corresponding control signal to the machine and instruct it to automatically remove the object-holding grid from the compression chamber. The sensor can, for example, be a metal detector which senses when a metal object is in the drive mechanism (eg the rods 26).
It should also be understood that the plastic bottle insert can be considered an independent invention.
