Det utlegges en fremgangsmåte for dannelse av en sjiktsannsynlighetskube. Først dannes et S-gitter inneholdende sjikt. Gitteret omfatter lag av celler og søyler av celler. Vertikale sjiktproporsjonsdata for lagene av celler fremskaffes fra kilder slik som brønndata, begrepssatte, vertikale, geologiske seksjoner og grafer som beskriver proporsjonen til sjikt som forekommer i hvert av lagene. Det dannes deposenterarealkart omfattende definerte grenser for å danne deposenterområder der de respektive sjikt sannsynligvis vil forekomme.
