Abstract

The invention relates to a method for combustion of solid fuels, comprising the steps of feeding the fuel to a grate (1) in a combustion furnace, providing by primary oxygenation a primary combustion of the fuel while forming a bed of embers and releasing combustible gases, and circulating the released combustible gases for subsequent secondary oxygenation and combustion of the same. The method also comprises the additional step of circulating the combustible gases in a vertical plane about a substantially horizontal, imaginary rotational axis. The invention also relates to a solid fuel furnace for carrying out the method.
