Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse gjelder en fremgangsmåte for å inhibere kjelstensdannelse og korrosjon forårsaket av mangan i vannsystemer ved bruk av aminofosfonsyrer.
To av hovedproblemene som oppstår i vannbygningsteknikk er korrosjonen av metaller og utfelling av kjelstensdannende metallsalter i både behandlede og ubehandlede kjølevann-systemer. Korrosjonen av metaller som f.eks. stål, alumi-nium, messing og kobber som vanligvis finnes i vannsystemer, er primært forårsaket av oppløst oksygen og karbondioksyd. Materialer som fjerner oksygen, som f.eks. natriumsulfitt eller hydrazin, er ikke økonomiske og er teknisk inadekvate. Bruken av Zn<++->ion, kromater, molybdater, polyfosfater, orto-. fosfat og organofosfater i kjølevann for å danne beskyttende filmer på metalloverflater er vanlig i industrien. Kromater er meget effektive korrosjonsinhibitorer, men de er ofte uønskede i miljøet på grunn av meget kjente toksiske effekter. Zn<++>forårsaker likeledes miljøproblemer og det danner også produkter med lav løselighet med ortofosfat, hydroksyd og karbonat som kan danne slam og avsetninger som er ansvarlige for å fremme korrosjon. Polyfosfater er ikke så effektive som kromater og de er ustabile i et kjølevann-miljø i hvilket de spaltes ved hydrolyse til orto- og pyro-fosfater som ofte danner slam og avsetninger. Selv om organofosfonater gir en viss korrosjonsbeskyttelse, er de ikke på langt nær så effektive som kromater.
Dannelsen av uløselige, kjelstensdannende metallsalter som f.eks. kalsiumfosfat, -karbonat og -sulfat har også vist seg skadelig for den totale effektiviteten i vannledningssystemer, f.eks. avsetninger i ledninger og varmeveksler-utstyr. Noen av faktorene som er funnet å påvirke kjelstensdannelse er temperatur, pH i systemet, alkaliniteten, varme-overføringshastigheten og konsentrasjon og typer av ioner som er til stede.
Mangan oppløses lett som manganion (Mn<++>) i vann som er fritt for oksygen og kan finnes i dype brønnvann i konsentrasjoner så høye som 2-3 mg/l. Mangan kan foreligge i flere former avhengig av oksydasjonstilstand, pH, bikarbonat/- karbonat/OH-likevekt og nærværet av andre materialer. Konsentrasjoner større enn ca. 0,05 mg/l er rapportert å forårsake plagsom manganavsetning. Konsentrasjoner mindre enn dette kan imidlertid også forårsake problemer ved akkumulering i et fordelingssystem og så frigjøres i høye konsentrasjoner på et senere tidspunkt dersom det skulle inn-tre en forandring i omgivelsene, f.eks. forandringer i pH, C02-innhold eller alkalinitet. Påvirkning av et oksyderende miljø (lufting, klorering) kan også resultere i manganavsetning. Når det således f.eks. foreligger små mengder mangan i matevann for kjøletårn, kan det oppstå avsetninger som deretter resulterer i alvorlige korrosjonsproblemer.
Flere klasser av forbindelser er brukt for å regulere metallioner, for eksempel er aminokarboksylsyrer av spesiell betydning ved vannbehandling. US-patent 2 396 938 beskriver bruken av aminokarboksylsyrer for behandlig av en koker både for å fjerne kjeisten og å hindre dens dannelse. En fremgangsmåte for samtidig å regulere ionekonsentrasjonen og pH ved bruk av aminokarboksylsyrer er beskrevet i US-patent 2 961 311. Kommersielt tilgjengelige aminokarboksylsyrer omfatter nitriltrieddiksyre (NTA), etylendiamintetraeddiksyre (EDTA), og dietylentriaminpentaeddiksyre (DTPA). Disse aminokarboksylsyrene fungerer ved å innføre metallionet i en ringstruktur, dvs. ved chelatering. Metallioner reguleres vanligvis med aminokarboksylsyrer på en støkiometrisk basis.
Bruken av metylenfosfonsyresubstituerte alkylenpolyaminer for metallionregulering i mindre enn støkiometriske mengder ble foreslått i US-patent 2 609 390. Senere ble vanndisper-gerbare, polymere aminchelaterendé midler, som omfattet alkylenfosfonatderivater, i US-patent 3 331 773 angitt å ha "terskel *'-ef f ekter ved anvendelse for inhibering av kj eisten. Dette uttrykket anvendes for å beskrive bruken av chelateringsmidlet i mindre enn støkiometriske mengder. Diamin- og polyamin-metylenfosfonsyrederivatene beskrives i US-patenter henholdsvis 3 336 221 og 3 434 969. Noen av de produktene som er beskrevet i disse to patentene, er kommersielt tilgjengelige og er anbefalt som terskel-kjelstensinhi-bitorer for jordalkalimetallforbindelser som f.eks. jord-alkalimetallkarbonater, -sulfater og -oksalater. Andre patenter som beskriver heterocykliske, nitrogenholdige forbindelser som er anvendbare som chelateringsmidler og kan anvendes i terskel-mengder for å regulere utfellingen av jordalkalimetallsalter er US-patenter 3 674 804, 3 720 498,
3 743 603, 3 859 211 og 3 954 761. I et nyere patent, US-patent 4 229 294, er bruken av terskelmengder av amino-forbindeler inneholdende både fosfon- og hydroksypropylen-sulfonsyregrupper for inhibering av jordalkalimetallavsetning beskrevet. Bruken av aminofosfonater for å hindre korrosjon av metaller i vannsystemer er beskrevet av en av oppfinnerne i foreliggende søknad i US-patent 4 640 818, i hvilket slike forbindelser anvendes i kombinasjon med manganionet. Det er også vist i US-patent 4 640 818 at i fravær av mangan, er fosfonater som f.eks. dietylentriaminpenta(metylenfosfonsyre)
(DTPMP) skadelig for kobber eller messing i vannsystemer.
Stabiliseringen av løselig mangan for å hindre dets utfelling er beskrevet i US-patent 4 552 665 ved tilsetning av en kopolymer av akryl- eller metakrylsyre med 2-akrylamido-2-metylpropyl-sulfonsyre eller dens metylakrylamido-analog. Denne kopolymeren sies også å være effektiv i kombinasjon med et hvilket som helst vannløselig polykarboksylat, polyamino-fosfonat eller -fosfat.
I tillegg er visse ikke-nitrogenfosfonsyrederivater av ålifatiske syrer anvendbare ionereguleringsmidler. Disse kan fremstilles ved omsetning av fosforsyre med syreanhydrider eller syreklorider, f.eks. fosfonoderivatene av anhydridene eller kloridene av eddik-, propion- og valeriansyrene, til-svarende formelen
hvor R er et lavere alkylradikal med 1 til 5 karbonatomer. Fremgangsmåten for fremstilling og bruken av disse produktene er beskrevet i US-patent 3 214 554. Bruken av terskelmengder for å hindre kalsiumavsetning er beskrevet der. Representa-tiv for denne type av produkt er den kommersielt tilgjengelige 1-hydroksyetyliden-l,1-difosfonsyre (HEDP).
Oppfinnelsen gjelder en fremgangsmåte for inhibering av uønsket manganavsetning i vannledningssystemer ved å tilføre minst én av visse aminofosfonsyrer med lav molekylvekt eller salter derav, til vannet i systemet.
Det er nå funnet at mangan, i konsentrasjoner og under betingelser ved hvilke det vil utfelle og fremme korrosjon i vannledningssystemer, kan reguleres ved tilsetning av visse aminofosfonsyrer eller deres salter. Dessuten omdannes tyde-ligvis noe av manganet i slike vandige systemer og anvendes ved dannelsen av en beskyttende, korrosjonsinhiberende film på metalloverflåtene.
De organiske fosfonsyrene som er funnet anvendbare for regulering av mangan er organiske aminofosfonsyrer hvor nitrogenet og fosforet er sammenbundet med en alkylen- eller substituert alkylengruppe.
Forbindelsene kan fremstilles ved hjelp av en rekke kjente synteseteknikker. Av spesiell betydning er reaksjonen mellom forbindelser som inneholder reaktive aminhydrogener og en karbonylforbindelse (aldehyd eller keton) og fosforsyre eller et derivat derav. Detaljerte fremgangsmåter kan finnes i US-patent 3 288 846.
Følgende strukturelle formler representerer noen av de kompieksdannende ligander som kan anvendes ved utførelsen av foreliggende oppfinnelse:

Foretrukne utførelsesformer av forbindelsene med formel

Noen spesifikke, men ikke-begrensende, eksempler på forbindelser som omfattes av de ovennevnte strukturer er etylen-diamintetra(metylenfosfonsyre) (EDTMP), dietylentriaminpenta-(metylenfosfonsyre) (DTPMP), hydroksyetyletylendiamin-tri(metylenfosfonsyre) (HEEDTMP), pentaetylenheksaminokta-(metylenfosfonsyre) og heksametylendiamintetra(metylenfosfon-syre) .
Organofosfonsyrederivater som inneholder hydroksyalkyl-gruppen i tillegg til alkylenfosfonsyregruppen som en nitrogensubstituent kan fremstilles ved å omsette et for- løperamin med et alkylenoksyd i vandig medium, f.eks. propylenoksyd(l,2-epoksypropan), som beskrevet i US-patent 3 398 198. De forløperaminer som således anvendes som start-materialer for de produktene som anvendes er, f.eks., etylen-diamin, dietylentriamin, trietylentetramin, pentaetylenheksamin og lignende polyaminer med molekylvekter opp til 275. Hydroksyalkyleringsreaksjonen utføres før den som erstatter hydrogenet i amingruppen med alkylenfosfonsyregruppen.
For formålet med foreliggende oppfinnelse anses effektive aminofosfonsyrederivater beskrevet her og salter derav å være ekvivalente. Saltene som det refereres til er syreaddisjons-saltene av de baser som vil danne et salt med minst én syregruppe i aminofosfonsyrederivatet. Egnede baser omfatter f.eks. alkalimetall- og jordalkalimetallhydroksydene, -karbonatene og -bikarbonatene, som f.eks. natriumhydroksyd, kaliumhydroksyd, kalsiumhydroksyd, kaliumkarbonat, natrium-bikarbonat, magnesiumkarbonat og lignende, ammoniakk, pri-mære, sekundære og tertiære aminer og lignende. Disse saltene kan fremstilles ved å behandle aminofosfonsyrederivatet med minst én syregruppe med en passende base.
Mengden av chelateringsmiddel som er nødvendig for å fjerne manganet ved hjelp av foreliggende fremgangsmåte må være minst en støkiometrisk mengde i forhold til mengden mangan. Et foretrukket forhold mellom chelateringsmiddel og mangan er fra 40:1 til 20:1.
De organiske aminofosfonsyrederivatene som anvendes ifølge oppfinnelsen kan også virke i nærvær av andre additiver som vanligvis anvendes i vannet i kjølesystemer, naturligvis for-utsatt at det ikke er noen uheldig virkning som resultat av bruken av slike kombinasjoner. Noen representative additiver er: dispergeringsmidler, som f.eks. polyakrylater, polymeta-krylater, polymaleinsyreanhydrider, akrylat/metakrylatkopoly-merer, akrylat/akrylamidkopolymerer og akrylat/hydroksy-alkylakrylatkopolymerer, biocider som f.eks. 2,2-dibrom-2-nitril-propionamid, bis(tributyl-tinn)oksyd, klor, klor-dioksyd og bromklorid, antiskummidler og lignende. Andre midler som f.eks. fosfater, tolyltriazol og lignende kan også være til stede. I noen tilfeller kan ytterligere mangan til- settes for å hjelpe til ved dannelsen av den beskyttende, korrosjonsinhiberende filmen.
EKSEMPEL A (KONTROLL)
Tanker med 8 liters kapasitet ble fylt med vann med følgende egenskaper:
Luft ble innblåst gjennom et glassrør som var plassert i en ende av tanken og som strakte seg til bunnen av tanken, i en mengde på 283 standard dm<3>pr. time (SCFH) . Luftgjennom-blåsingen ble brukt for å resirkulere vannet, oksygenere vannet og hjelpe til med fordamping. Vann-nivået i tanken ble automatisk regulert med et tyngdekraftsmatesystem og varme ble tilført til vannet ved elektriske neddykkingsvarme-elementer. Vanntemperaturen ble målt ved hjelp av en platinamotstandstemperaturdetektor og regulert til 52°C ved hjelp av en "av/på"-regulator som tilførte energi til ned-dykkingsvarmeelementene. Vannet ble justert til pH 8,0 med tilsetning av 50% NaOH-løsning og ble automatisk holdt ved denne pH-verdi ved hjelp av en regulator som matet HC1 til tanken som svar på økning i pH. Tre elektroder av karbonstål
(1018) som var renset med 1:1 HC1 og behandlet med 320° sand-papir for å fjerne alle overflateoksyder, ble festet til korrosjonssondene og neddykket i tankene. Korrosjonshastig-hetene ble bestemt ved bruk av et potensiostatisk korrosjons-hastighetsinstrument. Testen ble kjørt i en periode på 5 dager ved hvilken tid konsentrasjonen av salter i badet var omtrent fire ganger så stor som i matevannet. Ved slutten av testen ble den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten fra forsøket funnet å være 0,25 mm pr. år (mmpå).
EKSEMPEL B (SAMMENLIGNING)
På samme måte som i eksempel A ble et forsøk utført i hvilket 100 ppm 1-hydroksyetyliden-l,1-difosfonsyre (HEDP)
ble tilsatt til tanken. Dette er et kommersielt tilgjengelig produkt som vanligvis anvendes ved vannbehandling. Den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten fra forsøket ble funnet å være 0,20 mm pr. år. Ved bruk av samme testvann,
bortsett fra mangan, og anvendelse av 100 ppm av HEDP var den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten 0,19 mm pr. år.
EKSEMPEL C (SAMMENLIGNING)
I en annen sammenligning utført på samme måte som i eksempel A, ble 100 ppm aminotri(metylenfosfonsyre) (ATMP) tilsatt til tanken. Dette er en annen kommersielt tilgjengelig inhibitor som vanligvis anvendes på vannbehandlingsom-rådet. Den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten fra forsøket ble funnet å være 0,035 mm pr. år. Ved bruk av 100 ppm av ATMP i prøvetestvannet, idet mangan ble utelukket, ble det oppnådd en endelig, gjennomsnittlig korrosjonshastighet på 0,025 mm pr. år.
Eksempler 1-6, som følger, er illustrerende eksempler ifølge oppfinnelsen.
EKSEMPEL 1
Forsøk ble utført på samme måte som i eksempel A, men med tilsetning av 100 ppm DTPMP som inhibitor. Den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten ved forsøket ble funnet å være 0,013 mm pr. år. En analyse av sondene indi-kerte nærværet av mangan i den beskyttende filmen. Bruk av 100 ppm av DTPMP i det samme vannet, med utelukkelse av mangan, gav en endelig, gjennomsnittlig korrosjonshastighet på 0,063 mm pr. år.
EKSEMPEL 2
På samme måte som i eksempel A ble det til en tank som inneholdt 7,5 ppm mangan i vannet tilsatt 150 ppm av DTPMP. Den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten ble funnet å være 0,009 mm pr. år.
EKSEMPEL 3
På samme måte som i eksempel A ble 85 ppm av et fosfonometylert etylenamin E-100* (E-100-MP) tilsatt til vannet.
Den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten fra forsøket ble funnet å være 0,011 mm pr. år.
<*>Etylenamin E-100 er et produkt fra The Dow Chemical Company beskrevet som en blanding av pentaetylenheksamin og tyngre etylenaminer omfattende piperazinstrukturer med en gjennomsnittlig molekylvekt på ca. 275.
EKSEMPEL 4
Aminoetyletanolamin (AEEA) ble fosfonometylert og tilsatt til vann i en mengde på 100 ppm ifølge fremgangsmåten fra eksempel A. Den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten for karbonstål var 0,013 mm pr. år.
EKSEMPEL 5
En test ble utført ifølge fremgangsmåten fra eksempel A bortsett fra at det ble brukt elektroder av Admiralty-messing (messing CDA-443), for å bestemme virkningene på korrosjons-hastighetene for messing. Testene ble kjørt i ni dager istedenfor 5, og vannet inneholdt 10 ppm mangan istedenfor 5 ppm. Til dette systemet ble det tilsatt omtrent 200 ppm DTPMP. Den endelige, gjennomsnittlige korrosjonshastigheten var 0,0063 mm pr. år.
Forsøk i US-patent 4 64 0 818 viser at i fravær av mangan er dietylentriaminpenta(metylenfosfonsyre) skadelig for kobber eller messing i vannsystemer.
EKSEMPEL 6
En forsøkskjøletårnenhet med en kapasitet på 1 325 liter ble operert overensstemmende med foreliggende oppfinnelse i hvilken konsentrasjonen av manganioner (Mn<++>) ble holdt på fra 0,3 til 0,6 ppm. Varmetilførselen i systemet ble holdt konstant og korrosjonskuponger av karbonstål 1010 ble plassert i det sirkulerende vannet. Klor, som et biocid, ble kontinuerlig tilsatt for å holde konsentrasjonen av totalklor i området på fra 1,0 til 2,5 ppm. DTPMP ble brukt for å regulere manganavsetning og kjelstensdannelse, og ble tilsatt kontinuerlig under testperioden. Systemet ble målt for å bestemme alkalinitet, hardhet, pH, ledningsevne, mengden av tilstedeværende løselig og totalt mangan og mengden av DTPMP. Analyser av en syv dagers forsøksserie fremgår av tabell I.
Etter fire måneders drift ble systemet åpnet og inspisert visuelt. Korrosjonskupongene ble analysert ved hjelp av en energidispersiv røntgenstråleteknikk. Ingen påvisning av manganforurensning ble notert.
Claims (14)
1. Fremgangsmåte for inhibering av uønsket manganavsetning i vannledningssystemer som inneholder mangan i konsentrasjoner og under betingelser slik at manganet vil ha en tendens til å utfelles som en uløselig forbindelse,karakterisert vedat det til vannet til-settes en organisk aminofosfonsyre, hvori nitrogenet og fosforet er forbundet med et alkylen- eller substituert alkylenradikal, og har formelen
hvor substituentene A, B, C, D, E og F uavhengige er hydrogen, -CH2P03H2, eller
eller salter av fosfonsyreradikalet hvor X og Y uavhengig er hydrogen, metyl- eller etylradikaler, n er 2 eller 3, og m og m' hver er 0-10, med det forbehold at mer enn 50% av aminhydrogenatomene er substituert med en fosfor-holdig gruppe,
og hvor R er en hydrokarbonrest som kan være en lineær, forgrenet, cyklisk, heterocyklisk eller substituert heterocyklisk struktur, med det ytterligere forbehold at når m eller rn' er lik eller større enn 1, kan E- og F-substituentene være den samme som eller forskjellig fra en hvilken som helst annen substituent av et hvilket som helst annet nitrogenatom og hver R kan være den samme som eller forskjellig fra en hvilken som helst annen R.

11. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1,karakterisert vedat forløperaminet har en gjennomsnittlig molekylvekt på ca. 275.
12. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 11,karakterisert vedat i det vesentlige alle aminhydrogenatomene er substituert ved metylenfosfonsyre-grupper eller salter derav.
13. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1,karakterisert vedat den organiske amino-fosfonsyren med formel I er tilstede i minst støkiometrisk mengde i forhold til det tilstedeværende mangan.
14. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 13,karakterisert vedat forholdet mellom organisk aminofosfonsyre med formel I og mangan er fra 40:1 til 20:1.
