Abstract

After insertion into the chimney shell (12), the material web (3) is pulled off so that the heat insulating layer (2) expands. In rear-ventilated chimney shells, the heat insulating layer (2) also penetrates the ventilation ducts (13) of the chimney shell (12) and blocks these ducts (13). The material web (3), which consists of a non-flammable or hardly flammable material, has at least one region (4) extending in the longitudinal direction of the tube with overlapping sections which are held together by a releasable connection (7) so that, by releasing the connection (7), a given predetermined expansion of the heat insulating layer (2) is achieved. <IMAGE>
