Description
Oppfinnelsen angår en elektrisk isolasjonsmasse for fylling The invention relates to an electrical insulating mass for filling
av en kapsel som omslutter en elektrisk ledning, omfattende samreaktive isocyanat-avsluttede og hydroksyl- eller amin- of a capsule enclosing an electrical wire, comprising co-reactive isocyanate-terminated and hydroxyl- or amine-
avsluttede forbindelser og en elektrisk isolerende organisk væske. terminated compounds and an electrically insulating organic liquid.
After terminating or splicing cables that have oil-impregnated paper as insulation, the end or splice area is normally surrounded with a viscous insulation. The flow properties of such insulation allow it to replenish oil seeping into the cable, and to absorb temperature-related pressure changes caused by current heat or variations in ambient temperature.
All previously used viscous insulations have been associated with a number of obvious disadvantages. A first disadvantage, which exists with commonly used highly viscous masses on a hydrocarbon basis, is that these masses must be heated in order to be poured into an insulation capsule, e.g. an end or splicing sleeve, and this heating must be sufficient to greatly reduce the viscosity so that the filled insulating material is free of trapped air. Such heating operations, where the masses are heated to temperatures of 80-350°C or more, are cumbersome and require additional equipment, fuel and time. they are risky for the workers, especially when the work is carried out on top of a cable mast, and can also cause damage to associated equipment.
Another disadvantage of these high-viscosity compounds is that, after installation, they are rather stiff at normal ambient temperatures. This also applies, among other things, to such a mass, which is indicated in the introduction, and which is known from DE-OS 2 303 701. At any time, when using such hardened insulating masses, it is desired to gain access to the interior of the end or joint sleeve again to change connections or make new ones, you must use special

På Insulation materials with a lower viscosity have also been used, but they present another problem in return. On

Følgen er at der foreligger et behov for et materiale som The consequence is that there is a need for a material which
egner seg som isolasjon for avslutninger eller spleiser hos papirisolerte kabler og både gjør det mulig å benytte-en bekvem isolasjonsmåte og har ønskelige egenskaper etter installasjonen. is suitable as insulation for terminations or splices in paper-insulated cables and both makes it possible to use a convenient method of insulation and has desirable properties after installation.
As far as is known, this need has never been satisfied before the present invention appeared.
Oppfinnelsen skaffer en ny elektrisk isolasjonsmasse som The invention provides a new electrical insulating mass which
Med sikte på å overvinne de oven- is normally stored in two parts until the time of use, and which is particularly suitable for use in insulating terminations or joints in oil-impregnated cables. With a view to overcoming the above-
nevnte vanskeligheter, har massen en sammensetning som angitt i det selvstendige krav. mentioned difficulties, the mass has a composition as stated in the independent claim.
Før de to ingredienser reagerer, har således den beskrevne Before the two ingredients react, the described has thus

After the ingredients have reacted, the mass has much higher
Videre kan man lettvint påny komme til en avslutning eller skjøt som er isolert med en masse ifølge oppfinnelsen, uten å bruke varme - viscosity at room temperature, but is still able to flow and can be reduced in viscosity by raising the temperature. The flow properties are such that the mass within a suitable termination can relieve pressure that develops in the cable, and serve as a reservoir in the cable head, but still does not seep too strongly. Furthermore, you can easily reach an end or joint that is insulated with a mass according to the invention, without using heat -
Some older publications that have points of contact with the present invention, but have not led to it, are the following:

Dette lag omfatter små dråper av transformator- eller mineralolje dispergert i et elastomert bindemateriale som kan dannes ved kryssbinding av en karboksyl-avsluttet polybutadien med en epoksy-harpiks. an electrical conductor, where the insulation between the conductor and the capsule includes a layer of hardened elastomeric material that bonds the insulation to the capsule. This layer comprises small droplets of transformer or mineral oil dispersed in an elastomeric binder material which can be formed by cross-linking a carboxyl-terminated polybutadiene with an epoxy resin.
The mass described in the aforementioned patent differs
Derimot vil den reaksjon som gir tykningsmiddelet i en masse ifølge oppfinnelsen, og som i alminnelighet from the mass according to the invention with regard to composition and purpose. The known mass hardens in heat and then forms a bonding layer with an elastic, rubbery consistency. In contrast, the reaction which gives the thickening agent in a mass according to the invention, and which in general
finner sted ved værelsetemperatur, levne massen i en flytedyktig tilstand, og ved oppvarmning blir massens viskositet redusert så den flyter enda bedre. takes place at room temperature, leaving the mass in a flowable state, and when heated, the viscosity of the mass is reduced so that it flows even better.
According to US-PS 3,634,050, Corino seeks to prevent escape of oil from damaged compartments of tankers or storage tanks by introducing gelling agents into the oil. The gelling agents Corino gives instructions for are fundamentally different from the components of the masses according to the invention. When the known gelling agent reacts, a molecule with a low molecular weight is formed, which clearly causes gelation by interaction with polar components (e.g. water) in the crude oil. In contrast, the pulps according to the present invention include ingredients which form a polymeric thickener which thickens a dry highly refined oil thanks to its own extremely high viscosity. Furthermore, Corino does not mention electrically insulating masses. E.g. crude oil would generally not be suitable for use in conventional electrical insulation, nor would an oil containing appreciable moisture.
An injection opening 24 for introducing insulating compound 25 in accordance with the invention is designed in the cover sleeve and closed with a plug 26. An air tube 27 in the cable lug 18 is closed with a plug 28.
The organic liquid or oil that forms the basic component of an insulating mass according to the invention should have good electrical insulating properties, including a dielectric strength of approx. 6 kV per mm or more at a gap of 2.5 mm. In addition, the organic base liquid, in the event that an insulating mass according to the invention can be subjected to voltages up to 25 kV or more, should have a dispersion factor of no more than 0.2 (sometimes expressed as 20%) and a dielectric constant no higher than approx. . 10.
In addition to having good electrical properties, the organic base liquid should be free-flowing so that a mass according to the invention can be easily and conveniently poured into place. Most often, the liquid will have a viscosity of 10,000 centipois or less at 25°C, and preferably have a viscosity of 5,000 centipois or less at this temperature. In order for it to have the necessary flow properties when it is in place as insulation, the base liquid should remain liquid within the entire range of operating temperatures to which the insulation is normally exposed. Moreover, the liquid should be non-volatile, which means that it is essentially free of volatile substances such as those used as volatile solvents.
This organic base liquid, which is not miscible with water, is preferably compatible with oil or other liquid insulation in a cable that is terminated or spliced. It should also be non-corrosive to the conductor and to any metal container or capsule for the insulating mass. Normally, the organic liquid must also be mainly inert towards (i.e. not react appreciably with) other components in the mass. It should be substantially dry (generally containing less than 0.05% by weight of moisture as measured by e.g. Karl Fischer reagent) to enable good electrical insulation, ensure correct stoichiometry between reactive ingredients and avoid the formation of gas bubbles.
A variety of commercially available liquids or oils can be used as an organic base liquid for the purpose, both individually and in a mixture. Often, an organic base liquid used in a mass according to the invention will be a mixture of different compounds. Some suitable organic liquids include: petroleum fractions which are products obtained from the separation and purification of crude oil and e.g. occurs in the form of mineral oil, transformer oil or cable impregnation oil; synthetic oils, such as alkylbenzenes; plasticizers that are usually used according to recipes for thermoplastics, such as dioctyl phthalates or diisononyl phthalate; oils from vegetable sources such as tall oil or vegetable oils; as well as silicone oils.
The thickener included in a mass according to the invention generally takes the form of two or more ingredients which can react with each other at room temperature and can be dispersed in the organic base liquid to give a liquid with low viscosity. In general, the initial viscosity of the mixture will be less than approx. 10,000 centipoises for room temperature, and preferably less than approx. 5,000 centipoises. A mixture according to the invention is stored in two parts before it is introduced into a cable head or joint, with a part of the thickener in each part of the mixture. The ingredients of the thickener are compatible with the organic base liquid both before and after their reaction (by this is meant that the mixture of the base liquid with the reagents on standing does not separate into separate layers of the individual phases regardless of whether the ingredients have not yet reacted or have already reacted with each other) . The organic base liquid will thus in reality serve as a dissolving or softening agent for the components of the thickener.
The components of the thickener react to thicken the mass, but should leave it as a flowable liquid or semi-solid mass (which will, for example, assume the shape of its container). In addition, the mass should be such that its viscosity decreases when heated. In general, the viscosity will vary at least 10,000 centipois and preferably at least 25,000 centipois in the temperature range 25-100°C. To achieve this result, the mutually reacting groups of the ingredients should not average more than about 3 per molecule. On the other hand, in order to ensure the necessary increase in viscosity during the reaction of the thickener's ingredients in situ, there should be at least one reactive group per molecule of the ingredients. In the event that the necessary increase in viscosity is achieved by polymerisation (as opposed to reaction between pre-existing large molecules), there is an average of at least approx. 1.5 reactive groups per molecule, which is almost always the case. According to the invention, there is an average of between approx. 1.8 and 2.3, and usually slightly more than 2, co-reacting groups per molecule of the ingredient.
It is preferable that at least one of the thickener's ingredients is present in prepolymerized form, as the use of an ingredient in this form helps to give a uniform molecular weight in the thickener after the reaction.
Thickeners based on a reactive ingredient bearing iso-cyanate groups are currently used, because such ingredients allow good control of the reaction of the thickener. They can typically be obtained with fairly uniform difunctionality, and during in situ reaction a high proportion of chain extension is obtained instead of cross-linking. Suitable isocyanate-terminated ingredients include toluene diisocyanate, methylene bis(phenyl isocyanate) or liquefied versions thereof, isocyanate-terminated dimerized fatty acids and isophorone diisocyanate.
N,N'-dibutyl-p-fenyl-diamin. Polyols are often preferred for use with isocyanate-terminated ingredients, as they provide good electrical properties when reacted with them. Suitable polyols include hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene, hydroxyl-terminated polypropylene oxide, and N,N-bis(2-hydroxypropyl)-aniline. However, amine-terminated ingredients can also be used together with an isocyanate-terminated ingredient. Examples of suitable amines include secondary aromatic diamines, e.g. N,N'-dibutyl-p-phenyl-diamine.
De reaktive ingredienser benyttes vanligvis i tilnærmelsesvis støkiometrisk forhold, dvs. i et forhold på ca. 0,6 til 1,3, og fortrinnsvis på ca. The reactive components of the thickener are added to the organic base liquid in an amount which will generally bring the viscosity of the total mass at room temperature after reaction of the ingredients to at least 50,000 centipois, and preferably at least 75,000 centipois. The most suitable proportion of reactive ingredients will vary greatly, depending on the viscosity of the organic base liquid and on the thickener formed during the reaction, but the reactive ingredients will almost always amount to less than approx. 50% by weight of the total mass, more often less than 35% by weight and most often less than 25% by weight. In order to give the desired increase in viscosity by reaction in situ of the thickener, the mass should generally contain at least 5% by weight reactive ingredients of the thickener, and most often at least 7-8% by weight. The reactive ingredients are usually used in an approximately stoichiometric ratio, i.e. in a ratio of approx. 0.6 to 1.3, and preferably of approx.
0,7 til 1,1. 0.7 to 1.1.
The thickening agent in the reacted state as well as the organic base liquid should be thermally stable, i.e. should not be split or reduced to low-viscosity forms at temperatures that may occur in the mass when it is in place as insulation in the cable head or joint.
Normalt vil isolasjonen ikke bli utsatt for temperaturer uten-for området -40 - +90°C, skjønt der kortvarig vil kunne forekomme temperaturer opptil 130°C. Normally, the insulation will not be exposed to temperatures outside the -40 - +90°C range, although temperatures up to 130°C may occur briefly there.
It is possible to add catalysts to the mass to increase the reaction rate of the thickener's reactive ingredients. E.g. when it comes to thickeners that include isocyanate- and hydroxyl-terminated ingredients, such catalysts as phenylmercuric acetate, triethylenediamine and iron bis-acetonyl-acetonate can be used. Other additives that can be used are antioxidants or stabilizers, such as e.g. can be useful to prevent hasty reactions of isocyanate groups on a prepolymer with urethane groups in the prepolymer.
In the following, the invention will be explained in more detail by means of examples. (The manufacturing process of the examples generally involved separate mixing of the ingredients of a first part, designated Part A, with the exception of a catalyst, and the ingredients of a second part, Part B, with the exception of an isocyanate-terminated ingredient, and subsequent drying of the separate mixtures by heating in vacuo. After the mixtures had cooled somewhat, the catalyst was added to Part A and the isocyanate-terminated ingredient added to Part B. In Examples 1, 2 and 5, Part B was then heated, after which the isocyanate and hydroxyl terminated ingredients reacted to form a prepolymer.)
■ Eksempel 1 ■ Example 1
An insulating mass was prepared in two parts, as indicated below:

After these two parts were mixed in equal amounts by weight, the mixture hardened within approx. a day to give a viscous solution. The mass had a viscosity close to 100,000 centipoises at 25°C and a viscosity of approx. 100 centipoises at 100°C. The reactive ingredients constituted 10% by weight of the mass; masses with the ingredients according to this example, where the proportion of reactive ingredients varied from approx. 8 to 15% by weight, had substantially the same viscosity characteristics as indicated, which is fairly close to the presently desired viscosity characteristic for a popular hot-fill insulating compound. The equivalence ratio of isocyanate to hydroxyl varied in these masses between 0.9 and 1.1.
Massen ble prøvet på elektriske egenskaper, termisk stabilitet og høyspenningsfasthet: The mass was tested for electrical properties, thermal stability and high-voltage strength:

No significant change in the viscosity of the mass was observed after 6 weeks at 75°C in a closed container, which is illustrative of its excellent thermal stability.

1) Prøve foreskrevet ifølge AIEE Standard No. 48 for kabelhoder bestemt for avslutninger for 20 kV. In addition, a termination (three branch) of a three-conductor 15 kV paper-insulated lead cable, insulated with the mass according to the example, was subjected to cyclic thermal stress (one hour of normal heating to a conductor temperature of 75 - 80°C, followed by 7 hours cooling to ambient temperature without current) under a clamping voltage (phase to phase) of 27 kV. This test took place continuously for 1500 h without failure and was then terminated.
The cable head was also mounted on paper-insulated lead cable in a dry state (without cable oil) and filled with the above-mentioned mass. A slight decrease in the level of the pulp in the cable head showed that the pulp in a reacted state is capable of wetting and seeping into the paper to replace cable oil.
No electrical penetration or leakage of insulating compound was observed in any of the terminations or joints that were tested.

After these parts were mixed in equal amounts by weight, they reacted within approx. a day at 25°C to give a viscous solution. This mass had a viscosity of approx. 100,000 centipoises at 25°C and a viscosity of approx. 600 centipoises at 100°C. The mass described contained approx. 5.5% by weight reactive ingredients; pulps with 10 to 20% by weight reactive ingredients had similar desirable temperature-viscosity properties as discussed earlier in Example 1. These pulps also varied in terms of isocyanate-hydroxyl equivalence ratio between 0.8 and 1.1.

An insulating mass was prepared in two parts as indicated below:

After these two parts were mixed in equal amounts by weight, they hardened within 12 hours into a viscous solution. At 25°C the mass had a dielectric constant (100 Hz) of 4.15 and a dispersion factor of 0.056. The mass had a viscosity at 25°C slightly above 100,000 centipois and at 100°C a viscosity slightly below 100 centipois. After one week at 75°C, the viscosity of the solution increased slightly (from about 120 to 200 centipoises, measured at 75°C), indicating that no thermal degradation of the polymer solution had occurred. Masses according to this example and containing 15-25% by weight of reactive ingredients and with an isocyanate-amine equivalence ratio of 0.9 to 1.1 showed viscosity properties very close to the desirable properties discussed earlier in example 1.
