Description
The present invention relates to new preparations for dyeing keratin-containing fibres, particularly human hair, which do not have the usual disadvantages of known preparations.
For dyeing keratin-containing fibres, particularly human hair, certain chemical intermediates are usually used, hereinafter referred to as "oxidation dye precursors", which upon oxidation with a weak oxidising agent in an alkaline environment lead to the formation of pigment which is distributed in the keratin fibres, so that they gives different shades depending on the nature of and the ratio between the respective precursors used in the mixture. Preparations containing such precursors must be added to the oxidizing agent in the eye wax. Their dual content of coloring substances, apart from the oxidizing agent, is usually between 0.2 and 15% by weight.
The most commonly used oxidation dye precursors are in particular aromatic diamines, such as p-phenylenediamine, p-toluenediamine, m-toluenediamine, and their substituted derivatives such as nitro-p-phenylenediamine, aminophenols, and their derivatives, such as 2, 4-diaminoanisole sulfate and p-N-methylaminophenol sulfate, diphenols such as resorcinol and hydroquinoline.
Widely used oxidizing agents are hydrogen peroxide in a mixture with water, usually with from 3 to 10% by weight H^C^/ urea hydrogen peroxide and sodium perborate.
In such known preparations, the alkaline environment is obtained by the fact that they contain ammonia as an alkalizing agent, which has the three functions: to make the hair maximally receptive by causing it to swell and thus facilitate the penetration of the preparation into it, to make the pH conditions favorable for oxidation reactions -nen, and make the oxygenated water unstable.
The presence of ammonia in amounts that can go up to 12 - 15% by weight and in the form of an aqueous mixture with a specific gravity of 1.179, is, however, a source of discomfort both for the consumer and for those who carry out the application of the preparations. The suffocating smell of ammonia appears during the mixing of the preparation's other components with the oxidizing agent just before use, as well as during application and during the preparation's required exposure time.
Furthermore, the ammonia is always aggressive towards relatively sensitive scalps, with effects that can range from a faint tingling sensation to a burning sensation. Such effects occur practically all the time in cases where a coloring agent is applied after bleaching, which always makes the scalp sensitive.
These disadvantages are very annoying and make application inconvenient.
Furthermore, ammonia diffuses through a large number of plastic materials and elastomers, and such materials cannot therefore be used for packaging and/or for storing any of the known forms of means for coloring keratin fibres. In particular, it is not possible to package such colorants in the known aerosol containers with a double valve and two chambers, one chamber of which is made of an elastic plastic material or elastomer material, and placed in another chamber which contains the oxidizing agent to be mixed with the others constituents at the time of use, and which are usually of a metallic material.
However, the ammonia will diffuse through the walls of the first-mentioned chamber, thereby causing, as is known, a decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide, which is the most used oxidizing agent, with the evolution of large amounts of oxygen. In this way, the pressure inside the container rises considerably to the point of bursting it. In all respects, the preparation is rendered increasingly ineffective due to decomposition of the aqueous oxidizing agent which must be brought into contact with the preparation's other components at the time of use.
There is thus the problem of eliminating the disadvantages of using ammonia as an alkalizing agent in dye preparations of the present kind, and the patent holder has endeavored to solve it by finding preparations which do not contain ammonia, or which only have a low content of ammonia .
With regard to preparations for permanent curling or straightening of hair and other keratin-containing fibers, the patentee has found a solution to this problem as described in his patent no. 134,898 in which protection is claimed for such preparations containing the carbonate of an N-unsubstituted amino acid alkali metal- or ammonium salt as an alkalizing compound.
It has now been found that these compounds can also be advantageously used in preparations for dyeing. of keratin-containing fibers such as human hair, and on the basis of oxidation-dye precursors known in and of themselves, to which preparations a weak oxidizing agent is added at the time of use.
The alkalizing compound in such coloring preparations has the same function as in the preparations for permanent shape change of hair and other keratin-containing fibres, namely to cause the fibers to swell, whereby penetration of the relevant preparation into them is facilitated.
In the preparations according to patent no. 134,898, said alkalizing compound has the further purpose of replacing the commonly used alkalizing agent ammonia and thereby avoiding that this volatile and smelly substance is carried away by evaporation. itself the repulsive smell of the mercaptans present in the preparations.
Also in the present dyeing preparations, this alkalizing compound replaces the ammonia, as it can be used in these preparations in such quantities that it replaces the ammonia in whole or in part:
However, because the present dye preparations must have an oxidizing agent added at the time of use so that this is present during the dyeing operation, it was not to be expected that this particular alkalizing compound would be advantageous in such preparations. It is known that oxidizing agents can act on amino acid compounds to form reaction products of a different nature, which may be expected to entail the risk of adverse results from dyeing operations with preparations containing the above-mentioned alkalizing compound.
It turned out that this disadvantage, which there was reason to expect, did not occur, as it was found that with dyeing preparations of the above-mentioned type containing an alkalizing compound consisting of the carbonate of an N-unsubstituted amino acid alkali metal or ammonium salt, fully satisfactory coloring effects, and in addition certain other advantages which will be explained in the following.
From British patent document no. 1,173,004, it is known in preparations for coloring and changing the shape of hair to use a source of metal ions, consisting of a water-soluble salt of magnesium, certain alkaline earth metals, heavy metals and noble metals together with an alkaline solution of another, an amino acid and a suspension of calcium oxide. It is these metal ions that produce the coloring or color change of the hair. An organic amine or a source of alkali metal ions or ammonium ions is used as an alkalizing agent in these preparations.
The composition of the preparations disclosed in British patent document no. 1,173,004 is thus significantly different from the composition of the preparations in question here," and the problem, replacement of ammonia with more beneficial alkalizing substances, is not affected at all. That the coloring of the hair is achieved with metal ions, also entails a different technique than when dyeing under, the use of oxidation dye precursors.
The invention therefore relates to a preparation for dyeing keratin-containing fibres, in particular human hair, on the basis of oxidation dye precursors known per se, as well as alkalizing agents" and a weak oxidising agent which is added at the time of use, which preparation is in the form of an aqueous solution or a gel-transferable liquid or an emulsion or cream, and the characteristic main feature of the invention is that the alkalizing agent is the carbonate of an amino acid unsubstituted on the nitrogen as an alkali metal or ammonium salt as a total or partial replacement for ammonia, and that the preparation optionally contains organic bases selected from morpholine, monoethanolamine, diethanolamine and triethanolamine.
Such preparations have been found to be advantageous in several ways. They thus do not cause any problems when applied with regard to attacks on the scalp. It is also noteworthy that the aesthetic appearance of the treated hair is better taken care of than when treated with the known preparations. Namely, in the presence of ammonia, hair or fibers are usually dull and rough, have a dried-in appearance, whereas when using preparations without or with little ammonia, shiny fibers are obtained which are smooth and easy to comb out, and which are more attractive from an aesthetic point of view.
The amino acid is preferably glycine, glycol or aminoacetic acid, but can also be lysine, methionine, tyrosine, glutamic acid,
These amino acids can be used in the racemic form, or in the form of their optical isomers. The alkali-numerical salt can. be sodium, potassium or lithium salt.
The carbonate of the alkali salt or the ammonium salt - of the amino acid may be associated with an organic base such as morpholine,
The colorants according to this invention can be in the form of aqueous solutions, gelable liquids (transferred to gel before use by the addition of an oxidizing agent) on the basis of surface-active, non-ionic or anionic products, or in the form of aqueous emulsions which usually have a consistency of creams.
The amount of the new alkalizing agent in the materials is preferably between 1 and 10% by weight, and the amount of any organic base is preferably 1-7% by weight, calculated on the weight of the material,
ikke medregnet oxydasjonsmiddel. oxidizing agent not included.
By using the carbonate of an alkali or ammonium salt of an amino acid, optionally combined with an organic base, and thus replacing ammonia as an alkalizing agent, the applicant has observed that very good results are obtained when applying coloring agents to lighter hair, or hair of same degree of color as the desired one, and on hair that has previously been exposed to bleaching. An ideal application is achieved here - perfect comfort for the person being treated, no unpleasant evaporation, no irritation in the scalp, the color tones obtained are very aesthetic, the hair is shiny, smooth and easy to comb. These benefits are identical for all types of keratin fibers.
In the following examples, different compositions and such colorants are given. The abbreviation "n.m.f." in connection with the indication of demineralized water means here: "necessary quantity for", and the abbreviation "n.m." means in connection with precursors for oxidation colours: "necessary amount to achieve the desired colour".
En anvendbar blanding av forløpere for oxydasjonsfarver, blant mange andre mulige blandinger for erholdelse av en sort farve er som følger: A useful mixture of precursors for oxidation dyes, among many other possible mixtures for obtaining a black color is as follows:
Eksempel 1 - 1M- ; Emulsjoner og kremer Eksempel 1 Eksempel 2 In the preparations, the disodium salt of ÉDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) is used as a complexing agent, sodium o-phenyl-phenolate as a bactericidal preservative, sodium bisulphite as a reducing agent that stabilizes the material with a view to oxidation during storage, the quaternary ammonium as a protective agent or softening agent for the hair (such protective agents can be specified: lauryl-pyridine chloride, cetyl-trimethylammonium bromide, cetylbenzene-dimethylammonium bromide, l-hydroxyethyl-2-heptadecyl-imidazoline), self-emulsified cetyl alcohol (with oxyethylene acetyl alcohol) as emulsifier or cream base when the products are used as emulsions or creams, nonylphenoloxyethylene as a surface-active agent, and propylene glycol as a "third" solvent that prevents gelation before use of the products that must be in gelled form after the addition of an oxidizing agent. ;Eksempel 36 ;;Eksempel 37';Eksempel 38 Eksempel 39- ;Eksempel ho ;Eksempel *+ l Example l* f ;Example 15 - 27; Aqueous solutions Example 15 Example 16 Example 17 ;Example 18 Example 19 ;Example 20 .. ;Example 21 Example 22 ;Example 23 ;Example 24 Example 25 Example 26 ;Example 27 ;Example 28 - 30: Liquid gelable products Example 28 Example 29 ; Example 30: The compositions given as examples do not give sufficient results when it is desired to achieve shades of color that are lighter than the color of the hair or, in general, lighter than the substrate on which the color is applied. For such applications, according to the known method, the presence of oxygenated water and ammonia is necessary, which together result in the formation of the artificial color and a lightening of the hair's natural shade. This result is usually obtained by using strong concentrations of ammonia in the bleaching agent, and coloring agents called "lightening agents" (éclaircissantes) are thus obtained. This is because the hair's natural pigments change under the influence of oxygenated water in a strong ammoniacal environment. As this decomposition reaction takes effect at the expense of the formation of the artificial pigments, it is possible in this way to achieve significantly lighter shades of color than the hair's natural shade, without bleaching. This technique, which is not recognized by all professionals because of the large amounts of ammonia required, which further aggravates the previously mentioned unpleasantness, has nevertheless found general application because of its ease of implementation, the time saving and the financial saving for the client by skipping a work step (the decolourisation) which is always difficult. ;The compositions in the previously stated examples do not, as far as lightening is concerned, provide sufficient performance to be able to bear the designation "lightening colouring". In order to achieve a lasting brightening effect, it is absolutely necessary to work at a pH far higher than that which the carbonate of an alkali salt or aramonium salt of an amino acid can provide, and a complementary amount of ammonia is necessary in the indicated formulations in addition to any organic bases present. In these compositions, ammonia is present in an amount of 0-6% by weight in the form of an aqueous solution with a specific gravity of 1.9211 (not including the oxidizing agent). It is observed that the presence of the carbonate of an alkali salt or ammonium salt of an amino acid allows the obtaining of lightening results which are comparable to those which are usually obtained with ammonia quantities which are 2-3 times greater than those used according to the present invention. It is thus possible to take advantage of the appealing technique of bleaching with the ammonia ratios (amounts) indicated above, which are usually used, and which in that way significantly reduces the unpleasantness previously mentioned. The following examples, which are emulsion or chalk-based lighting color compositions, contain a limited amount of ammonia due to the presence of the carbonate of sodium glycinate with or without an organic base such as monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, morpholine , etc. ;Example 31 ;;Example 32 ;Example 33 Example 3^ Example 35 ;For production on an industrial scale, it has been found practical and more economical in situ to prepare and use the carbonate of an alkali salt or ammonium salt of the amino acid. However, in this way it is also possible to regulate the quantity ratio between the alkali metal carbonate or the ammonium carbonate and the amino acid. In the production of certain preparations, an excess of alkali metal carbonate, such as sodium carbonate, can thus be used, whereby an improvement in performance is achieved in fibers or hair that are not very receptive. The following examples show such preparations in the form of emulsions or creams. ;Example 36 ;;Example 37';Example 38 Example 39- ;Example ho ;Example *+ l
