vanligvis på hydrocarboner og forskjellige blandinger av hydrocarboner med kokepunkt i bensinens kokepunktområde, enten for å forbedre de-res antibankeegenskaper eller for å fremstille usually on hydrocarbons and various mixtures of hydrocarbons with a boiling point in the gasoline boiling point range, either to improve their anti-knock properties or to produce
The primary purposes are to dehydrogenate the naphthenic hydrocarbons to form aromatics, and to dehydrocyclize the straight chain paraffinic hydrocarbons to form aromatics as well as to effect a controlled degree of hydrocracking which is selective both with respect to the quality and quantity of the aromatics. Other reactions that also occur, but to a lesser extent, are isomerisation, hydrogen transfer, disproportionation, etc. An advantageous catalytic conversion process provides a good balance between these reactions, so that the desired end result is achieved, and is largely dependent on the catalyst material used to promote the various reactions.
Recent developments in the petroleum industry have shown that a catalytic reforming process is carried out more advantageously by using catalyst materials that contain at least one noble metal of group VIII in the periodic table or a compound thereof. Although in the literature there are many descriptions of such catalysts and methods for their production, the exact mechanism of the catalysis is not completely known, and the end results obtained when using a given catalyst are difficult to predict with accuracy. Many production processes have been proposed for the purpose of developing catalyst materials with improved activity and stability for the conversion of hydrocarbons, but the ever-increasing demands for higher yields and quality of motor fuels, as well as better economy in production, have led to a demand for increasingly better catalysts. A particular difficulty which has been encountered in the use of these noble metal catalysts has been the lack of stability which is evidently due, at least in part, to the influence of air and/or moisture before the catalyst is put into use, or during - the start of the process where it is to be used.
From the U.S. patent document no. 2 863 825 a conditioning treatment is known to improve the stability of a platinum catalyst for the conversion of hydrocarbon oils which boil mainly in the boiling range of gasolines, with the aim of reducing the catalyst's loss of activity during use, which treatment involves that a platinum -aluminum oxide-halogen material after drying and calcination and after or simultaneously with reduction is treated with hydrogen and hydrogen sulphide or a sulfur compound at a temperature between 300° and 550°C, preferably under pressure.
However, experience has shown that a catalyst based on reduced platinum which has been sulphide-treated before use is often seriously damaged during the start-up of the process in which it is to be used. Low activity and catalytic instability also appear to occur when the sulfur is present in the material bound to the platinum as a sulfide or subsulfide, or if the platinum sulfides are partially reduced, so that metallic platinum is obtained on the surface and sulfur atoms or sulfur ions below the surface.
A general account of the circumstances which tend to cause deactivation of reforming catalysts containing noble metals from group VIII shall be given in the following. Although the causes and effects discussed below are believed to be correct, it will be understood that the invention is not limited by this explanation.
One type of deactivation is that which often occurs when hot naphtha vapors are first brought into contact with the fresh catalyst. Demethylation and hydrocracking reactions take place to an excessive extent, and the result is too high catalyst temperatures, low hydrogen purity and a liquid product that falls far short of the desired quality and quantity. Attempts have been made to avoid this type of deactivation by allowing the platinum-containing catalyst to take up some sulfur before it is brought into contact with the hot naphtha vapors, by adding a sulfur-containing hydrocarbon feedstock at relatively low temperatures, or by applying sulfur to the catalyst in the form of sulphide or sulphate, the catalyst also in this case being first brought into contact with the hydrocarbon starting material at a relatively low temperature.
Another type of deactivation takes place during the start-up of a catalytic converter in which a hydrogen-rich gas stream is circulated while the catalyst is heated to the desired operating temperature before it is brought into contact with the hydrocarbon feedstock. Under these conditions, the catalyst is reduced, and because the hydrogen-rich gas stream contains significant amounts of carbon monoxide and because significant amounts of water are in the system, the reduction takes place under "wet" conditions. It has been shown that a reduction carried out under

This type of deactivation has now been shown to be reduced to a minimum by the material being "reduced" under dry conditions before being subjected to the "wet" start-up conditions" when it is first used in the process.
The third type of deactivation is due to the presence of sulphides and subsulphides in a platinum catalyst which is reduced as a result of the

omformningsanlegget under oppstartningen av dette. the conversion plant during its start-up.
These three types of deactivation seem to create a dilemma. Namely, the catalyst should contain sulfur to prevent deactivation of the first type, and the catalyst must be pre-reduced to avoid deactivation of the second type. However, when both of these precautions are taken, such as by pre-reduction of a sulfided or sulfated catalyst, the conditions are created that lead to the third type of deactivation.
It has now been shown that one can better ensure the stability and activity of an optionally, and preferably, hydrogen sulphide-treated platinum catalyst for the transformation of hydrocarbons in a special way, so that the catalyst can better withstand the contact with air and moisture that is inevitable during storage, transport and handling of the catalyst before use, and the "wet" conditions that will almost always prevail during the start-up of industrial reforming plants. Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that it is not necessary to use very pure hydrogen (e.g. electrolytic hydrogen) during the first phase of the start-up, as the catalyst used in the method according to the invention can withstand the use of hydrogen as contains otherwise harmful amounts of carbon monoxide. Furthermore, it is no longer necessary to completely dry the unit before placing the catalyst in it.
According to the invention, a method is thus provided for the start-up and operation of a process for the catalytic transformation of a hydrocarbon fraction that boils in the boiling range of petrol, using a catalyst produced by a wet material containing a refractory, inorganic oxide, a precious metal of group VIII in the periodic table and bound chlorine, is dried and oxidized at a temperature higher than 204 °C, and then reduced at an elevated temperature in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere, which method is distinguished by the fact that a catalyst prepared as indicated, however, the reduction of the catalyst at an elevated temperature in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere is carried out under practically dry conditions, is introduced into a reaction zone, a hydrogen-containing stream which is practically free of hydrocarbons, is passed through the reaction zone and the catalyst while said zone and catalyst are heated to a transformation temperature in the range of 427 ° to 526°C, a stream of a hydroc carbon fraction is then passed through the reaction zone under reforming conditions and in the presence of hydrogen, and reformed hydrocarbon product is recovered from the mixture taken out of the reaction.
Protection is not required here for the catalyst used in the method according to the invention.
The catalyst used contains, as mentioned, a noble metal component from group VIII in the periodic table. Although platinum is the preferred metal in the series of noble metals, other metals in group VIII, such as palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, osmium and iridium, can also be used. Usually, the amount of the noble metal component used together with the other catalyst components is small. For example, platinum and/or pallidum will usually make up from 0.01 to 5.0% by weight of the total catalyst and preferably from 0.01 to 2.0% by weight, calculated as pure metal.
Regardless of which catalytically active metal component is used, it is used together with a refractory support material which is an inorganic oxide such as aluminium, silicon, zirconium, magnesium, boron, thorium, titanium or strontium oxide and mixtures of two or several oxides, such as silicon oxide-aluminum oxide, aluminum oxide-boron oxide, silicon oxide-thorium oxide, silicon oxide-aluminum oxide-zirconium oxide and the like.
The refractory inorganic oxide preferably contains at least some aluminum oxide, and even better results are usually achieved when the carrier material consists of aluminum oxide as the only component. The term aluminum oxide means porous aluminum oxide at all oxidation stages and at all hydration stages, as well as aluminum hydroxide. The aluminum oxide can be produced synthetically or be naturally occurring and can be crystalline or in the form of a gel. Whatever type of aluminum oxide is used, it can be activated before it is used by one or more treatments including drying, calcination or steam treatment. It can also be in the form known as activated aluminum oxide, commercial aluminum oxide, porous aluminum oxide or aluminum oxide gel. The aluminum oxide can be used in any suitable form, e.g. such as spheroids, pills, extruded forms, powders or granules. The particularly preferred form of the aluminum oxide is the spheroidal form.
Den foretrukne klorkonsentrasjon ligger i The preferred chlorine concentration lies in
området fra ca. 0,75 til ca. 1,5 vektprosent, beregnet som elementært halogen. the area from approx. 0.75 to approx. 1.5% by weight, calculated as elemental halogen.
The chlorine component, where the chlorine is present in bound form, can be added to the refractory inorganic oxide in any suitable manner, before, after or simultaneously with the addition of the catalytically active metal component. Chlorine can thus be added to aluminum oxide as an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride, as aluminum chloride or by means of a volatile salt such as ammonium chloride.
The process for producing the catalyst is facilitated by the use of water-soluble compounds of the platinum group metals. Thus, when the precious metal is platinum, the platinum can be added to the carrier material by mixing this with an aqueous solution of chloroplatinic acid. Other water-soluble platinum compounds can also be used in the impregnation solution, such as ammonium chloroplatinate, platinum (II) chloride, platinum (IV) chloride and dinitrodiaminoplatinum. The use of a platinum-chlorine compound, such as chloroplatinic acid, may under certain conditions facilitate the incorporation of both the platinum component and at least a minor portion of the chlorine component in a single step, or hydrochloric acid may be used in admixture with chloroplatinic acid to incorporate - add the required amount of bound chlorine.
After the deposition of the chlorine and platinum component, the catalyst material is dried at a temperature of 93 to 100°C in order to remove excess water remaining from the impregnation solution. The material is then oxidized, or calcined, first at a temperature in the range from 204 to 316°C for at least 1 hour until the content of volatile materials is reduced to an amount of less than approx. 5.0% by weight. The calcination temperature is then increased to the range between 371 and 538°C, and the material is further calcined at the elevated temperature for 1 hour until the content of volatile materials in the final catalyst material is reduced to an amount below approx. 2.0 weight percent and preferably below approx. 1.5 percent by weight.
The reduction step which is carried out after the oxidation of the catalyst material is of decisive importance in order to achieve the desired results with the method according to the invention, as it is necessary that the reduction is carried out under practically dry conditions. The reduction can be carried out while the catalyst is placed, e.g. on a conveyor belt or is placed as a moving, fluidized or stationary layer in a suitable vessel. The treatment in a stationary layer of the oxidized catalyst material provides a more appropriate and economical manufacturing method, and this technique also enables a relatively simple regulation of the variables included in the manufacturing process. A hydrogen-rich gas stream, preferably with a hydrogen concentration higher than 90.0 mole percent, is passed through the catalyst at a pressure in the range from atmospheric pressure to 6.8 atmospheres. The hydrogen stream is continuously circulated through the catalyst at a temperature in the range of 454 to 566°C for periods of up to 1 hour or more, until the platinum has been reduced to its lowest possible valence.
According to one preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, a catalyst is used which, after the reduction at elevated temperature, ignites in practically dry conditions, having been subjected to treatment with hydrogen sulphide (which itself is kerite) at a temperature in the range from 10° to 93 °C, until the final catalyst has a content of 0.05-1.5% by weight of absorbed sulphur. This results in further increased stability and activity of the catalyst.
The treatment of the reduced catalyst is carried out by first cooling it to a temperature of 10 to 93 °C, after which the circulation of hydrogen is stopped. It is preferred to expel residual hydrogen from the system with a suitable inert gas such as nitrogen until the exiting gas pipe shows a hydrogen content in which approx. 2.0 proserite. Hydrogen sulphide is then brought into contact with the reduced platiha material at a temperature in the above-mentioned range and at a pressure slightly above atmospheric pressure, until sulfur has been absorbed in an amount of from approx. 0.05 to approx. 1.5 percent by weight of the total material. As an alternative to the stationary bed system, the reduced platiria material can be transferred to a rotary mixer to which hydrogen sulphide is added in the desired amount. The catalyst and hydrogen sulphide are then mixed for approx. 1 hour or until the prescribed amount of sulfur has been absorbed on the catalyst.
The treatment with hydrogen sulphide can be carried out according to any appropriate method which provides uniform absorption of sulphur. Before the treatment with the hydrogen sulphide, the material will be surrounded by an atmosphere of hydrogen or an inert gas such as nitrogen or air. The latter will be the case especially when the material is transferred to a mixer. The hydrogen sulphide can simply be introduced in a suitable quantity into the atmosphere which already surrounds the particles of the material or a suitable mixture of hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen or inert gas can be prepared and brought into contact with the particles.
De nedenstående eksempler vil ytterligere illustrere oppfinnelsen. The following examples will further illustrate the invention.
Eksempel 1.Example 1.
This example illustrates how the type of deactivation due to stagnation-causing or "wet" reduction that occurs during the start-up of commercial catalytic reformers can be greatly reduced when the catalyst is reduced under dry conditions before being subjected to the stagnation-causing wet reduction.
Three cationic solids, denoted Å, B and C, the first two known, of which the third was processed for use by the method according to the invention, were therefore subjected to an activity and stability test described below.
Catalyst A was prepared using aluminum oxide spheres with a diameter of 1.6 mm and containing 0.35% by weight of bound chlorine. Sfæfbidérié was treated with one aqueous solution of hydfogenfludride to give them a content of cå: 0.35 weight percent bound fluoride. The halogen-containing spheroids were then dried and subjected to eri enkéi kaolsineririg at approx. 482°C. The caseinized spheroids were impregnated with an aqueous solution of chloroplatinic acid, whereby a catalyst containing 0.75% by weight platinum was obtained. The impregnated spheroids were dried at approx. 149 °C and calcined in air at a temperature of approx. 2 hours, until the concentration of volatile materials had become lower than approx. 2.0 percent by weight. Catalyst A is an example of the conversion catalysts containing platinum and bound chlorine on refractory inorganic oxides that are used today.
Catalyst B was prepared in a similar way to catalyst A, except that it was subjected to a stagnation-effect wet reduction of the same kind as that which takes place at the start of a commercial catalytic reforming process.
Catalyst C, which is used in the method according to the invention, was prepared in a similar way as catalyst Ay, the catalyst was pre-reduced under dry conditions and then subjected to a stagnation-causing wet reduction as discussed above.
Resultatene av denne standardprøve på relativ aktivitet er oppført i den følgende tabell: The three catalysts were each subjected to an activity and stability test which consisted of passing a hydrocarbon starting material with a boiling range from 93°C to 204°C around the catalyst at a space velocity per hour on a liquid basis of 2.0, in an atmosphere of hydrogen for approx. 14 hours using a hydrogen:hydrocarbon molar ratio of 14:1. The reaction zone was kept at a temperature of 500 °C and under an overpressure of 34 atmospheres. A liquid product that was representative of the entire 14-year period; was analyzed for octane number ("F-l Cléar") according to ASTM's standard procedure. The results of this standard test of relative activity are listed in the following table:
In the above table, "excess receiver gas" denotes the amount of gas required in excess of the required amount to maintain the desired pressure in the reaction zone. Analyzes showed that this gas consists of relatively pure hydrogen (approx. 90-95 mole percent throughout the 14-hour activity test). "Excess debutanization gas" is a gaseous product composed of light paraffins, methane, ethane, propane and butane together with some hydrogen which is primarily due to hydrocracking reactions. The "debutanization gas ratio" is the ratio between the excess debutanization gas and the total excess gas and gives an indication of the yield of the desired liquid product. It is also to some extent an indication of the relative stability of the catalyst. The lower the butaneization gas ratio is; the more active the catalyst is for the purpose of effecting catalytic reforming of hydrocarbons, and the greater the stability of the catalyst.
The activity figure is given for seeding purposes, as a value of 100 has been set for the standard catalyst, which is here referred to as catalyst. They are first compared at both the same octahtaii for the product and the same gas production. For example, the first number (debutanization gas at the same octane number) indicates the volume of excess debutanization gas that is obtained by using a given catalyst in the production of a product with a given octane number, in relation to the volume of the excess debutanization gas in the use of a catalyst in the production of a product with the same octane number. For the numbers that compare the space velocities, the larger the number, the more active the catalyst. For the numbers that sum up the amount of debutanization gas, the smaller the number, the higher the yield of high octane product.
The data listed in Table I clearly show the deactivation of one plate-available catalyst when this is subjected to a stagnation-causing wet reduction. When comparing pure catalysts, one will first notice that when using the latter catalyst, a liquid product is obtained with a significantly lower octane number and a significantly higher debutanization gas ratio: A catalyst that is damaged by bridging in contact with hydrogen in the presence of moisture; will thus, when not protected therein, give a liquid product of lower quality and lower yield. It is also apparent from the three activity figures that catalyst B produces larger amounts of debutanization gas both when the process is operated either while maintaining the same octane number and when it is operated while maintaining the same total gas production. With regard to the effect of the space velocity on the octane number, it will be seen that the speed at which the hydrocarbon starting material is brought into contact with catalyst B, i.e. the space velocity per hour on a liquid basis, must necessarily be considerably less in order to achieve a product of the same quality as when a catalyst is used.
The results obtained with catalyst C; shows the improved properties of a catalyst protected by a dry pre-reduction, despite the catalyst being subsequently subjected to a stagnation-inducing "wet reduction". Although the effect of space velocity on the octane number for catalyst C was less than for catalyst B which had not been protected from the damaging effects of a stagnation-inducing wet reduction. There, the somewhat low activity of 93 for catalyst C is believed to be due to loss of bound chlorine from the catalyst during the wet reduction causing stagnaris, as the chloride concentration decreased from 0.35 weight percent to approx. 0.22% by weight. It will be seen, however, that the debutanized gas ratio is the same as that obtained using the standard catalyst and that the quality of the debutanized liquid product is essentially the same.
Eksempel 2Example 2
A further three catalysts D, E and F, the first two known, the third subjected to the preferred treatment for use in the process according to the invention; was subjected to the relative activity test described in example 1: Catalyst D was prepared in the same way as catalyst A, except that the temperature after the high-temperature oxidation was reduced to a temperature in the range from 399° to 427°C and that the oxidized catalyst was subjected to known sulphidation technique at this temperature with the intention of transferring the platinum component to platinum sulphide.
Catalyst E was prepared in the same way as catalyst D; but some of the bound sulfur was removed by reduction with hydrogen under the conditions that would prevail during the start-up of a commercial reforming process.
Catalyst F was prepared and treated for use in the method according to the invention, proceeding as described for the preparation of catalyst A and then reducing the oxidized platinum-containing material under practically dry conditions at a temperature of approx. 482°C for a period of approx. 1 hour and then treated the material at approximately room temperature with hydrogen sulphide, until approx. 0.10% sulfur had been absorbed, based on the weight of the total catalyst material.
The results of the relative activity test carried out on each of the above-described catalysts D, E and F are listed in the following table, where the reference catalyst A is also included.
The table shows that the pre-reduced and conventionally sulfided catalyst D has little activity and gives poor product distribution. The octane number of the final debutanized liquid product decreased to 92.2, the debutanization gas ratio increased to 0.481, and the space velocity at constant octane decreased to approx. 80. No activity figure has been specified for the debutanization gas at the same total gas formation, because the formation of debutanization gas when using catalyst D at the same total gas formation as when using catalyst A was too large for an accurate numerical comparison to be made. The table further shows that catalyst E is of significantly poorer quality than catalyst D, from which catalyst it differs only in that part of the bound sulfur was removed during the hydrogen reduction, as would be the case during the start-up of a commercial reformation process. For catalyst E, the activity figure for the formation of debutanization gas at the same octane number is significantly higher, and the space velocity at the same octane number approx. 7% lower.
For catalyst F, which has been treated for use by the method according to the invention, all three activity figures are significantly improved, while the debutanization gas ratio is approx. 20% lower.
Eksempel 3.Example 3.
Two catalysts G and H, the first a conventional catalyst and the second subjected to a preferred treatment for use in the process according to the invention which was prepared as described below, were each subjected to a test to determine the stability over a longer period of time.
Katalysator G ble fremstilt under anvendelse av 1,6 mm aluminiumoxydsfærioder som bærer- Catalyst G was prepared using 1.6 mm alumina spheroids as support
materiale. The aluminum oxide spheroids were dried at approx. 204°C and calcined in air for 1 hour at 510°C. The temperature was then increased to 680°C, and the calcination was continued for approx. 2 hours. The content of volatile materials in the potassium oxide spheroids had then been reduced to 1.98 percent by weight. The calcined aluminum oxide spheres were then impregnated with a sufficient amount of chloroplatinic (IV) acid, whereby a catalyst containing 0.750 weight percent platinum, calculated as elemental, was obtained. To 272 kg of the calcined spheroids placed in a rotary evaporator, 515 liters of water and 15.7 kg of a 34.6% by weight solution of hydrochloric acid were added. The spheroids were dried in the rotary evaporator at a vapor pressure of approx. 3.4 atmospheres in approx. 6 hours. The dried spheroids were then subjected to calcination, or oxidation, at 288°C for 1 hour. The content of volatile materials was thereby brought down to 4.5% by weight. The oxidation temperature was then increased to 500 °C and further calcination carried out for 2 hours, whereby the content of volatile materials was reduced to 1.7% by weight. The catalyst was free of fluorides and contained 0.750 weight percent platinum and 0.95 weight percent chloride, calculated as elemental chlorine. This catalyst, which is a conventional one, was thus prepared without pre-reduction at an elevated temperature and without treatment with hydrogen sulphide at a temperature around room temperature.
Catalyst H was prepared by proceeding as described above for catalyst G, but then placing the oxidized catalyst in an elongated vessel which was kept at a room temperature of approx. 482°C and in this vessel brought the catalyst into contact with a continuously circulating stream containing approx. 95% hydrogen. After i<y>2<t>irrie the hydrogen circulation was stopped, the remaining hydrogen was flushed away from the vessel with nitrogen and the temperature of the catalyst reduced to approximately room temperature. When the exiting gas from the vessel showed less than 2.0 mol% hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide was added in sufficient quantity to give the final catalyst a content of 0.10% by weight of sulphur.
Før de to katalysatorer ble underkastet prø-ven for bestemmelse av stabiliteten over et lengre tidsrom, ble de underkastet en simulert, «våt» oppstartning slik den finner sted i kommersielle, katalytiske omformningsanlegg. Before the two catalysts were subjected to the test to determine the stability over a longer period of time, they were subjected to a simulated, "wet" start-up as it takes place in commercial, catalytic reforming plants.
In the evaluation test used, a low-boiling naphtha fraction with a boiling range from 71 °C to 127 °C and conditions that are specially adapted to industrialize slightly unstable operation is used. The catalyst is kept under a hydrogen overpressure of 20.4 atmospheres, and the naphtha fraction is passed through the catalyst at a relatively low space velocity per hour on a liquid basis of 1.5 in the presence of hydrogen in a molar ratio of naphtha:hydrogen of 1:12. The test is carried out approx. 150 hours or more by continuously regulating the operating temperature to maintain an octane number of 100 ("F-l Clear") for the debutanized liquid portion of the total product. The results are plotted as a function of time, and the relative activity and selectivity are determined by comparing the data obtained with data obtained for other catalysts. The relative stability of the catalysts is determined by comparing the slope after 100 hours of the resulting curves.
Resultatene av prøven på stabilitet i lengre tid er oppført i den følgende tabell: The results of the long-term stability test are listed in the following table:
Dessuten var utbyttet av pentan og tyngre væske ca. 13 volum-prosent høyere for katalysator H. It can be seen that the selectivity of catalyst G was strongly influenced in an unfavorable direction by the simulated "wet" start-up. The yield of pentane and heavier liquid, the gas formation, the purity of the hydrogen and the deactivation rate (indicated in the table as the change per day after 100 hours) are all inferior to the results obtained with catalyst H. While e.g. catalyst G was deactivated at a rate of 4.4° C per day while maintaining the octane number of 100.0 ("F-1 Clear"), catalyst H, which has been treated for use by the process of the present invention, required an increase in temperature of only 1°C per day. In addition, the yield of pentane and heavier liquid was approx. 13 volume percent higher for catalyst H.
Catalyst H thus withstood the rigorous wet treatment with hydrogen with only very small losses of selectivity.
Also, other data for catalyst H show the protection afforded to the platinum-containing reforming catalyst when it is treated for use in the process according to the present invention. For example, only a small reduction in pentanes and heavier liquid was detected when maintaining an octane number for the product of 100.0 ("F-l Clear"). Although the amount of excess receiver gas decreased by approx. 2.96 N m<3>/ m<3>pr. day.

Procedure for start-up and operation of a process for catalytic reformation of a hydrocarbon fraction boiling in the boiling range of gasoline, using a catalyst prepared by drying and oxidizing a wet material containing a refractory inorganic oxide, a noble metal of group VIII of the periodic table, and bound chlorine at a temperature higher than 204° C and then reduced at an elevated temperature in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere, characterized in that a catalyst prepared as indicated, where, however, the reduction at an elevated temperature in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere is carried out under practically dry conditions, is introduced into a reaction zone, a hydrogen-containing stream that is substantially free of hydrocarbons , is passed through the reaction zone and catalyst while said reaction zone and catalyst are heated to a reforming temperature in the range of 427° to 526°C, a stream of a hydrocarbon fraction is then passed through the reaction zone at reforming conditions and in the presence of hydrogen, and reformed hydrocarbon product is recovered from the mixture taken out from the reaction. 2. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that a catalyst is used which, after the reduction at elevated temperature, has been subjected to treatment with hydrogen sulphide at a temperature in the range from 10° to 93°C, until the final catalyst has obtained a content of 0.05 —1.5% by weight absorbed sulphur.
