Abstract

The invention of this application relates to a geotextile composed of two nonwoven types, use being made of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties of the material. The bottom layer repels water and the top layer absorbs water, which means that if this is used in bank forms etc. the top layer ensures pressure on the bank and the bottom layer prevents slippage (displacement). To strengthen (reinforce) the geotexile, a scrim can be used and needling carried out.

Description

GEOTEXTIEL, ten behoeve van verzwaring en bescherming tegen water voor toepassing in of op taluds (in de meest algemene zin van het woord).GEOTEXTILE, for weighting and protection against water for use in or on embankments (in the most general sense of the word).

The invention relates to an application in which two types of (non) wovens (whether or not ground) are combined into one (non) woven, in which the properties of the said (non) wovens behave opposite to water, in such a way that the top (non) woven layer attracts water, so is hydrophilic as such and the bottom layer repels water, is hydrophobic. Both layers together form one geotextile, which may or may not be reinforced with a support fabric (scrim). For this purpose, the (non) wovens of various materials can be provided that the properties are as described above.

Meltblown polypropylene was used to test the effect. This material will absorb 15 to 20 times its own weight in water in a hydrophilic state and serves as the top layer. In the hydrophobic state, this material will repel water and only absorb oil compounds.

Separately, both (non) wovens are used for the purposes described above and also come in a laminated version with a plastic bottom layer to prevent leakage.

Geotextile is usually a (non) woven fiber cloth shape and has the property that it has a great tensile strength in the longitudinal and transverse directions. In embankments such as dyke, road construction and railway support, geotextiles are used to strengthen the embankment, in particular to counteract shifts.

The geotextile for which protection is requested has as a special feature the protection of slopes and in particular of dikes. Due to the double property of the material, the function will be twofold:

The water-absorbing top layer will provide the weight due to the water volume sucked up, which in the current technique takes place by means of sandbags or ground cover. The water-repellent bottom layer provides the seal against water migration from both the outside to the inside and vice versa, preventing a water breakthrough and subsequently the risk of shifting of soil layers. The optional support fabric can increase the tensile strength of the composite fabric.

By using the geotextile described above as a protective fabric, incorporated in or on a slope, this geotextile can function optimally in the event of a breakthrough risk in the event of a high water load.

Claims (1)

De verbinding tussen beide lagen en eventuele steunlaag voldoende treksterkte dient te geven zowel in langs- als in dwarsrichtingGeotextile for use as a slope and dike protection, composed of two layers of woven or non-woven material, whether or not provided with a supporting fabric, characterized in that: The top layer has a hydrophilic water-absorbing property, whereby at least 15 - 20 times its own weight of water can be absorbed. The bottom layer has a hydrophobic water-repellent property. The material composition is not important, as long as both opposing properties are present and both materials are connected. The layer thickness of the top layer must be sufficiently thick and can therefore absorb sufficient water weight to fix the bottom layer by this water pressure. The connection between the two layers and any supporting layer must provide sufficient tensile strength in both the longitudinal and transverse directions
