Description
Short designation: Handle for a knife or similar hand tool.
The invention relates to a handle provided with finger grip cavities for a whirl or the like.
Hand grips provided with finger grip cavities are known. Examples of such handles can be found, inter alia, with certain types of bread knives and so-called no. butcher knives. These are usually cavities or recesses which are located in the normal position of use in the downward-facing edge of the handle. The main purpose of the cavities is to contribute to making the tool lie comfortably in the hand, in particular to be able to exert relatively great forces during cutting. This therefore concerns hand tools (i.c.knives) that are usually used in the so-called. fist grip, with all fingers of the hand curved together on one side and the thumb on the other side around the handle.
With such a grip, the handle is locked in the palm of the hand, namely, by the fingers bent around the handle on one side and the thumb extending along the other side thereof.
It is noteworthy that finger grip cavities have hitherto not been used in handles for hand tools such as knives, where the magnitude of the force to be applied during use is of minor importance, but the "steering" of the tool as well as the careful dosing of the strength to be exercised, on the other hand, is essential. As an example, mention can be made here of the surgical knife which is usual in surgery and which has a relatively flat handle located in the plane of the blade. With this type of hand tool, it is the intention that in the so-called overhand grip one of the fingers, usually the index finger, rests on the overlying edge of the handle, which is then elevated at the top, in order to be able to steer the knife with this finger and be able to accurately dose the force required to make an incision, for example. The main task of the thumb and middle finger is to prevent the knife from tipping over and must rest relatively firmly against the flanks of the handle. The grip around the handle is therefore relatively spasmodic, which detracts from the sensitivity when dosing the force to be applied.
The invention now aims, in particular for hand tools of the category discussed last, to provide an ergonomically improved handle, in particular a handle which can be handled "loosely" and thus "sensitively" and yet remains stable in the hand.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the hand-grip body, calculated from the implantation end of the actual tool, resp. The blade has a portion of gradually increasing thickness, the overlying surface of which in use has a recess designed as a place to rest for a fingertip, and to which portion a portion of a gradually decreasing thickness adjoins.
In a handle thus designed, there is a precisely defined bearing surface for the index finger, while the two flanks of the thickness-decreasing part of the handle body, immediately after the first part thereof, form a "flexible" support surface for the thumb and the middle finger, respectively. The handle can be held loosely and yet stably in the hand in the overhand grip (whereby the handle lies entirely in the palm of the hand) and in the so-called periholder handle, which means that the handle is not, as is the case with the known design, must be firmly gripped between thumb and middle finger to prevent unwanted tilting movements, the advantage of which is that the hand tool can be steered very sensitively in the plane with the index finger and the force to be exerted with the tool (knife) is accurate to dose.
The handle according to the invention can in principle be designed symmetrically with respect to a central longitudinal plane containing the tool (knife) and is then suitable for both right-handed and left-handed use.
However, in a preferred embodiment, the top surface of the first portion, viewed in the transverse direction, of the fingertip recess, slopes slightly from one edge to the other. This measure makes the handle lie even better in the hand, when the thumb is thereby placed against that flank, from where the surface with the fingertip cavity slopes. In addition, this feature opens up a choice with regard to two different "pen-holder handles", namely a peri-holder grip, wherein the middle finger rests in a relatively extended position laterally against the front portion of the handle body containing the fingertip cavity, and a peri-holder grip, wherein the middle finger is in a a more curved posture lies laterally behind the transition to the part with gradually decreasing thickness. Both pen holder handles are ergonomically equivalent. The choice between the two options will in practice be determined, for example, by the nature of the action to be performed. For example, the former option is recommended in the case of an operating knife when making an incision, while the second option will be chosen for "preparation".
This preferred embodiment does mean that two versions of the handle, which are intended for right and left-handed use respectively, will have to be provided.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing with an exemplary embodiment.
1-2.Fig. 1 and 2 each show a view of the two flanks of the handle according to the invention, viewed slightly at an angle from above, in an application as an operating knife and fig. 3 shows a top view of the knife according to fig. 1-2.
The operating knife shown in the drawing as an example consists of the actual knife or blade 1 and is provided with a handle 2 according to the invention. The handle 2 is of the asymmetrical type, i.e. its profile is formed asymmetrically with respect to the median longitudinal plane containing the blade 1, so that the handle is used in practice in two versions, respectively for right-handed and left-handed use.
The drawing shows the version for right-handed use. This means that Fig. 1 shows the thumb side and Fig. 2 the middle finger side of the handle.
2) aangeduid. For example, the suitable synthetic resin hand grip body comprises a head portion 3 which, viewed in horizontal section from the front or blade implantation end 4, gradually increases in thickness towards the rear end 5 and, therefore, when viewed from above (Fig. 3), has an approximately triangular shape. Seen in vertical section, the head part 3 tapers slightly downwards. A middle part 6 connects to the head part 3, which first decreases in thickness and then gradually thickens again. The transition lines between the head part 3 and the middle part 6 are indicated by 7 on the thumb side (fig. 1) and 8 on the middle finger side (fig. 2), respectively.
The central part 6 is profiled on its flanks in such a way that a well-fitting lying position for a horizontally oriented thumb lying on its side is obtained on the thumb side. This position (see fig. 3), when the handle is placed at an elevated position (as in fig. 1 and 2), can be considered to be substantially delimited by a part 9 of an approximately vertical cylinder surface. On the middle finger side, in the first part of the respective flank of the middle part 6, a somewhat concave shaped recess 10 is formed for a middle finger in curved position. This berth extends between the substantially straight downward front transition line 8 and a more rearward transition line from obliquely rearwardly extending from the top. The handle body is completed by a tail piece 12 which tapers towards the rear. The transition between the middle part 6 and the tailpiece is indicated by 13 on the thumb side (fig. 1), while the transition on the middle finger is less pronounced. In principle, the handle body can extend backwards on the middle finger side from the transition line 11 approximately straight and parallel to the median longitudinal plane of the knife.
The following should be noted about the top surface of the handle body. The top surface 14 of the head part 3 slopes upwards to the rear, up to the line 15 (fig. 3) from which the top surface of the middle part extends approximately horizontally and that of the tailpiece 12 slopes backwards. The top surface 14 also has a slope in the transverse direction, descending from the thumb side to the middle finger side.
In the top surface 14, a light recess 16 is provided, which serves as a resting place for the index finger of the right hand. The center of this lying position, seen in transverse direction, is approximately in line with the transition lines 7 and 8. Due to the slightly sloping position of the top surface 14 containing the fingertip cavity 16, the index finger is tilted slightly to the right on the surface 14, 16. to lay down. Two different pen holder handles automatically appear. In one of these, the index finger, as already described above, comes to lie curved against the surface 10, while in the second, the index finger in a more extended position and resting against the index finger, against the somewhat concave profiled flank 17 of the head part 3 supports.
The invention is not limited to the above exemplary embodiment. The handle according to the invention can advantageously be used with hand tools of different nature.
