Abstract

(A) Cmpds. (I):- R' = H or (1-6 C) alkyl R2 = H or PhCH2 R3 = H, (1-6 C) alkyl opt. subst. by OH, NH2 or a heterocyclic residue, or cycloalkyl, aralkyl, or aryloxyalkyl, all opt. subst. e.g. by OH or Alkyl X = hydroxy (1-6 C) alkyl, hydroxy ar-(1-6 C) alkyl, -CO2-(1-6C)-alkyl, CONHOH, CONHNH2 or CONR5R6, where R5 and R6 are H, (1-6 C) alkyl opt. subst. by OH or NH2, or NR5R6 form a heterocyclic ring. (B) Optical isomers of (I). (C) Acid addn. salts of (A) and (B). beta-adrenergic blocking and stimulating agents. Bronchodilators Dose 1-1,000 mg. To 5-(2-(N-benzyl-N-isopropyl glycyl)-salicyl-amide (1.3 g.) in T.H.F., LiAlH4 (1.0 g.) in T.H.F. (250 ml.) was added, refluxed 3 hrs., decompd. with H2O, acidified (HCl), concd., and extd. with Et2O and EtOAc, giving a gummy residue. This (0.9 g.), was chromat. on SiO2, eluting with cyclohexane-EtOAc (1.1) to give the N-isopropylamino-1-hydroxyethyl deriv. (0.31 g.), m.p. 142.5-144.5 deg.
