Abstract
The dredger operating system uses a pair of pivot posts on opposite sides of the stern and driven alternately into the river bed etc., while a suction nozzle is mounted at the end of a boom extending from the bow, boom and vessel slewing about the post. The nozzle(U) is so mounted that it can be moved to and fro in the lengthwise direction of the vessel, and dredging is carried out in a series of repeated operations, the nozzle being gradually hauled in from the outermost to the innermost point of its stroke, while slewing about the post(S2) on the opposite side of the vessel. The other post(S1) is then driven in instead, and the nozzle is moved out to the mid-point of its stroke, after which dredging proceeds while the boom(L) is slewed back again. The nozzle is moved to the outermost point of its stroke and dredging continues while slewing in the original direction again.
