Abstract

The steering gear for a boat (1) has a rudder (3) and a trim surface (8), the rudder being operated after the trim surface has been rotated. The pivoted axis (9) of the trim surface, at the level of that surface, is positioned forward of the rudder pivot (2) as seen in the direction of travel. The arrangement may be such that the force normal to the trim surface acts thereon in an area forward of the rudder pivot. The trim surface may be positioned forward of the rudder. It may be positioned below or above the rudder.
