Abstract

The automatic locking mechanism comprises an electromagnet with open magnetic circuit, working with a moving armature, together with a d.c. energising circuit for the magnet, and which can be cut off. It is partic. for holding fire doors in buildings open during working hours. It has a measuring circuit for the self-induction of the electromagnet, which is higher when the armature is pulled than when it is released. This controls a timing circuit, cutting off the energising current through the electromagnet when a predetermined time has elapsed after self-induction has reached the higher value occurring when the armature is pulled.
