Abstract
A fluid having high and low viscosity components is introduced into the test region between a pair of bearing members. The bearing members are biased for relative motion and they are fitted with at least one porous bearing surface. The low viscosity component is absorbed by the porous bearing surface. The high viscosity component remains in the test region to establish characteristics which are indicated by the relative motion between the bearing members. The rheological properties of the high viscosity component are a function of these characteristics.
